Job Description

EDUCATOR WANTED!The BGC Grand Manan is seeking an Educator to fill a maternity leave from September 2022 to June 2023. This position would work closely with children from ages 2 to 12 for 30 to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Experience is not necessary!Candidates must be:

In this dynamic role, duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assist lead educators to plan, implement, and direct both long- and short-range activities in accordance with the curriculum, objectives, developmentally appropriate practices, and program philosophy.
  • Develop positive relationships with parents by engaging with them daily regarding the development of their child.
  • Follow the lead and direction of the supervising educator.
  • Provide overall supervision and assistance with dressing and bathroom time, including diapering care, by following the proper procedures set by the Department.
  • Act as a positive and nurturing role model and demonstrate positive child guidance.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive team atmosphere.
  • Ensure children are prepared for outdoor activities (i.e. assist with clothing, sunscreen, seasonally appropriate gear, packing bags, etc.) especially when leaving or returning to the facility.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, positive, and inclusive environment where children can learn and grow.
  • Inspect and immediately report any lost or damaged equipment, materials, or facility components.
  • Positively encourage children to be engaged in activities while being an active participant (i.e. indoor and outdoor activities, sports, while out in the public, etc.).
  • Ensure that all licensing regulations are actively being met and report to the Executive Director any violations.
  • Remain flexible at all times (ie. when being required to move from program to program, when assisting with covering lunch breaks, etc.).
  • Participate in a strict cleaning schedule by helping to sanitize and disinfect surfaces/toys/supplies on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, while also maintaining a well-organized and thought-out learning environment.
  • Follow the Child Operator Standards, New Brunswick Early Childhood Curriculum, as well as all policies and procedures as set out by the BGC Grand Manan/BGC Canada.
  • Perform light kitchen duties as assigned (i.e. snacks and lunch preparation as well as cleaning/sanitizing and laundry duty).
  • Fill out paperwork daily such as accident/incident report forms, record attendance, and other forms as in the operator standards.
  • Assist in the overall cleanliness of the facility including the main entry, hallways, equipment room, laundry room, and kitchen.
  • Other duties as required/assigned.

  • Grand Manan, NB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
