Job Description

Employment TypeFull-TimeMinimum ExperienceMid-levelHeavy Equipment Operator(s)Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, Heavy Equipment Operators are responsible for operating a range of loaders, excavators and other equipment in our pit to screen soil and aggregates, organize and manage landscape materials and safely load trucks to supply materials to job sites. Operators are also responsible for regular checks on equipment and ensuring they are maintained to company standards.Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the delivery of completed landscape construction projects on, or ahead of, schedule
  • Apply knowledge of heavy equipment operation to maintain material supply for job sites
  • Organize hard and soft landscape materials within the pit
  • Safely and efficiently load trucks with materials to be delivered to job sites all over Ottawa Region
  • Demonstrate the values of the organization while completing performance objectives
  • Wear PPE and adhere to D&G’s Health & Safety procedures at all times
  • Follow safe handling procedures for use of equipment and tools
  • Conduct daily circle checks on all equipment
  • Advise Operations Supervisor, Dispatcher or Fleet Manager of any non-operational or unsafe equipment and plan alternate work to keep production schedule on track.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience operating heavy equipment (preferably in a pit environment)
  • Experience in a range of equipment with the ability to adapt to new machinery
  • Knowledge of landscape construction materials, aggregates, soils, processes and equipment (an asset)
  • Understanding of how to properly load trucks
  • Adaptability to quickly respond to changing demands
  • Willingness to learn and grow (advancement is a possibility for those who work for it)
  • Willingness to travel between sites, as required
