Job Description

For more information, visit ourchildrensmedicine.caTo provide a high-quality holistic community service and support program for Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation(MCFN) youth and families, which helps to foster a positive sense of self-identity and maintain a sense of belonging. To assist and support the MCFN intermediate and senior students through the MCFN Education Service Agreement and in partnership with GEDSB and BHNCDSB by empowering students toward academic success, through personal, social and culturally based educational supports. The Elementary/Secondary Education Advisor will ensure that the program and service delivery will be in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations, funding and policy agreements.Closing Date: October 27, 2022 at 12:00PMREQUIREMENTS

  • Self-Identify as First Nations, Metis, or Inuit
  • Strong oral/written communication skills
  • Must have a college diploma in Child and Youth Care or diploma or university degree in the social services
  • or education field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working directly with Indigenous youth
  • Experience working in a First Nation setting
  • Basic understanding of federal and provincial legislation impacting on First Nations Government
  • Knowledge of the Child Youth and Family Services Act
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, beliefs and practices
  • Knowledge of Indigenous parenting practices
  • Knowledge of strength based approach
  • Knowledge and a thorough understanding of historical trauma and intergenerational trauma of Indigenous
  • people Background in group facilitation and development
  • Background in culturally responsive youth programming
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi task
  • Ability to work effectively with community and neighboring community members
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in working collaboratively with First Nation and community partners in
  • education initiatives
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff, management and clients
  • Ability to relate effectively to community members
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Ability to capture and analyze qualitative and quantitative data
  • Well defined sense of diplomacy, solid conflict resolution skills, and people management
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization and execution
  • Solid background in computers with specific knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must have a reliable vehicle and valid Class “G” driver’s license
  • Must have a current (within 6 months of date of hire) satisfactory result from a Criminal Record Check
  • including a vulnerable sector check
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR level “C” or willingness to obtain by the end of the probationary period
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends
  • Must provide up-to-date immunization records, or a letter stating exemption on grounds of religion,
  • conscience or medical recommendation

  • Food Handler Certification
