Job PostingHalifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the regular part-time positions of Crosswalk Guard with Halifax Regional Police. HRM encourages applicants to self-identify.Crosswalk Guards are responsible for providing a safe and secure crosswalk for elementary children at designated school crosswalks in HRM.We are recruiting Regular Part-time Crosswalk Guards(s) who are bargaining members of CUPE Local 4814 for positions located in the following areas. Should we not be able to fill the vacancies listed below, we will accept applications from the general public for these same locations.   • Safely escort elementary school children across busy crosswalks throughout HRM
  • Enforce all policies and procedures in the operation of the crosswalk
  • Abides by all laws dealing with pedestrian traffic at the crosswalk
  • Reports any problems or safety concerns arising at the assigned crosswalk to the Supervisor or Program Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience:
  • Currently employed with CUPE Local 4814 as a regular part-time Crosswalk Guard
  • Currently employed as a spare crosswalk guard, an asset.
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Ability to stand or walk 2 - 3 ½ hours a day and be exposed to all weather conditions
  • Ability to maintain control under pressure
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Possess adequate vision and hearing.
Security Clearance Requirements: Candidates being considered for the position of Crosswalk Guard must successfully meet the security clearance requirements administered by Halifax Regional Police.HRM takes the health and safety of its job applicants and employees seriously.
