Job Description

About Us:BFT Mortgage Investment Corporation (BFT MIC) is an investment and lending corporation that focuses on working with registered and licensed mortgage brokers in order to fund first and second residential and commercial mortgages in the Golden Horseshoe. As an investment corporation, shareholders of our company invest in a diversified pool of mortgages without the burden of managing property directly and without worry of being tied to a specific mortgage. As a private mortgage lender, our company takes pride in being both flexible and efficient in reviewing broker applications. Our in-house valuation and decision making allows us to make credit decisions within 48 hours and completed mortgage applications can normally be funded within the week. The growth in capital that we’ve experienced over the last number of years is a direct representation of our leadership team understanding how the industry works and how to create long-term wealth for our investors.Our office, located at 436 Aberdeen Avenue in Hamilton is run by a small team that works closely together and shares the common goal of managing a successful and growing company.We have an immediate opening for a full-time Accounting Assistant.Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Post and calculate any ad-hoc daily journal entries across various associated companies
  • Maintain and update the company cash flow schedule daily
  • Maintain and update the company mortgage summary daily
  • Prepare and email mortgage statements to any borrowers upon request
  • Conduct weekly review of all payables and cutting cheques when necessary
  • Calculate and process the monthly mortgage interest payment EFT through online banking for the company and other associated companies
  • Calculate and post recurring journal entries across various associated companies
  • Follow up via telephone and email with all borrowers when payments don’t clear
  • Create monthly mortgage arrears statements and reviewing with management
  • Complete the monthly accounting file for the company and other associated companies which includes bank reconciliations, mortgage summary reconciliations, A/R review, A/P review…etc.
  • Calculate and process the monthly dividend payment EFT through online banking to all investors
  • Create assignment agreement documentation and send to management and third party investors to sign
Qualifications & Competencies:
  • Post-secondary accounting education required
  • Experience with Intuit QuickBooks desktop
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at once
  • Positive attitude and self-motivation
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills & client service skills
