Posting #:23172Openings Remaining:1Full/Part Time:Part TimeReg/Temp/Casual:TemporaryUnion:CUPEHours of Work:Rotating ShiftsTime of Day:Days, WeekendsShift Length:8hr, 10hr, 12hrOpen Date:22/11/22Closing Date:29/11/22Temporary assignment - approximately 52 weeksUNIT PROFILE:The Concurrent Disorders program provides a holistic treatment approach for individuals that are experiencing both addiction and mental health issues. The program is designed to meet the unique treatment needs of individuals that require expertise in both addictions and mental health treatment. An integrated care model ensures a seamless integration of psychiatric and substance abuse interventions. Services include assessment, consultation, intensive case management, shared care and capacity building across St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and community partners.POSITION SUMMARY:As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Addiction Attendant contributes to the assessment, treatment planning, and discharge planning process for all patients. The Addiction Attendant: monitors changes in condition and behaviour of clients; initiates and facilitates group and individual sessions for client education, support, problem-solving and planning; ensures awareness of treatment options, counseling resources, self-help group options and referrals to appropriate social and/or health services; provides a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere at all times; works with clients to complete assessment tool packages; provides resource materials and information to family and friends regarding concurrent disorder and lifestyle issues; liaises with appropriate health professionals and social agencies for services or client advocacy; and, assists in providing consultation and education within the community on addiction, withdrawal, treatment issues, and the services of the unit.QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-year community college Diploma in a Health or Social Service Program, with an addiction concentration
  • Minimum 2 years of current experience (within the last 5 years) within the field of addictions
  • Minimum of 1 year of current experience within a mental health specific setting
  • Current certificate in non-violent crisis intervention required
  • Current First Aid and CPR training required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation which includes: Mental Health Act, Healthcare Consent Act, and Substitute Decisions Act
•Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to access formal and informal community services and resources •Demonstrated competence in evidence-based addiction individual and group-based counselling techniques and interventions (Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Harm Reduction)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the stages of change model and ability to utilize stage specific interventions
  • Demonstrated skill in the identification and assessment of withdrawal symptoms and the application of appropriate interventions
  • Demonstrated skill in the incorporation of evidence-based practice and relevant referrals into addiction/concurrent disorder specific treatment plans
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and maintain effective professional and therapeutic relationships with patients
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current theoretical models and interventions and substance abuse treatment resources
  • Current experience and demonstrated skills in crisis intervention using a problem-solving model, interviewing and counselling in individual and group therapy with substance abuse and concurrent disorder clients, leading and/or co-leading psycho-educational groups, and utilizing standardized admission and discharge tools for assessment. (i.e. CAGE-AID, GAIN Tools)
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in developing didactic materials
  • Demonstrated commitment to professionalism and ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrated effective skills in teamwork and leadership
•Demonstrates ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary team and ability to work independently as well •Proficient computer skills using Windows, MS Word and Outlook/Exchange
  • French language skills and/or the ability to counsel in a second language an asset
  • Good work performance and attendance record is required
HOURS OF WORK:Rotating 8-hour shifts, days, weekends and holidays.
