Job Description

$17.20 per hour for 60 day probationary period$21.44 per hour following completion of 60 day probationary periodAs a Casual Assistant Caretaker, you will work on call in short-term and long-term assignments at multiple schools throughout the diverse communities of Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board including Hamilton Mountain, Hamilton Downtown, Waterdown, Flamborough, Dundas, Ancaster, Mount Hope, Binbrook, Stoney Creek and Winona.You will contribute to the well-being of students and staff by ensuring our schools and administrative offices are clean, well maintained, and pleasant places to learn and work. Working in a team environment, you will ensure the cleanliness and security of the building and grounds.New Casual Assistant Caretakers are provided with training and will perform the following duties:

  • Dusting and sanitizing surfaces in classrooms and offices
  • Wet and dry mopping of floors, polishing and scrubbing floors, operating auto scrubbers and buffers, stripping and refinishing floor surfaces
  • Garbage collection and removal, inside and outside
  • Snow removal, salting, and sanding as required
  • Operation of mechanical equipment including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, auto scrubbers, snow blowers, riding lawn mowers
  • Assist with set-up requirements for school activities and community rentals
  • Performing minor maintenance duties, eg. changing lights
  • General landscaping duties including weeding, lawn cutting, and grounds clean up
The qualifications of this position are the following:
  • High school diploma or Project Search Graduate or equivalent
  • Basic English verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Reliable team player with a customer service attitude
  • Safety conscious
  • Previous commercial/industrial cleaning experience is an asset
  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector records check will be required before beginning this position
