To learn more about Good Shepherd, visit our website at www.goodshepherdcentres.ca.Good Shepherd is preparing to launch a new, innovative shelter that will provide emergency accommodation to individuals and domestic partnerships currently living in encampments.This housing-focused shelter program, will offer stand-alone units for residents (and their pets) on a city-owned site at Tiffany and Barton Streets. The program team will provide intensive, adaptive supports and services to residents with highly complex barriers to finding and sustaining housing in the community.Reporting to the Senior Program Manager the Cook enhances the dignity and quality of life for our clients, visitors, staff by assisting in the day to day cooking operations for the service and always ensuring efficient and careful handling to maximize the highest quality.How You Will Make an Impact

• Responsible for the preparation, presentation and serving of nutritious and attractive meals with variety, snacks, and any food required for any Programs of Good Shepherd Centres.
• Responsible to assist with the safe and timely preparation of all meals, snacks and any foods requested as directed.
• Responsible for the maintenance of a tidy, clean and safe work area at all times.
• Responsible to assist in the cleaning of the kitchen and all food storage areas including refrigerators and freezers and maintaining all food areas in such a manner as meets the Health and Safety Standards.
• Responsible to assist in the rotation of perishables and utilization of food before spoilage occurs.
• Responsible for the preparation of nutritious snacks for Dormitory Guests and for the making of an adequate supply of bagged lunches for clients when meals are not available.
• Responsible to assist in the receiving, storing and retrieving for use all foods, whether purchased, or donated, as directed.
• Required to operate all kitchen equipment and to ensure that all equipment is used in a safe manner. If equipment appears to be malfunctioning, stop using immediately and report the matter to the Supervisor or designate.
• Responsible to perform all duties in a safe and conscientious manner, always ensuring that Health and Safety Standards are met at all times.
• Other duties as required

What You #39;ll Bring to Our Team

• Minimum academic requirement is a 2-year diploma normally acquired from a recognized Culinary Management/Food Services Program, or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years #39; experience in the hospitality industry.
• Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Availability, Flexibility, Adaptability, Hospitality and Dignity.
• A valid drivers #39; license and clean abstract is a necessity for this role
• CPR/First Aid certification and WHMIS training.
• Ability to be able to lift 25lbs.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt in a fast paced and changing work environment.
• Hospitable in dealings with clients/public/volunteers/staff, and other key stakeholders.
• Experience working in environments that accommodate pets/animals, with a readiness to support clients with companion animals; ensuring their needs are met with compassion and understanding
• Ability to work effectively in both indoor and outdoor settings
• Available and responsive to the needs of others.
• Respectful and compassionate demeanor.
• Observe all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
