Job Description

Nature & Scope: The General Manager, Facility Assets & Risk is an integral part of the Association operations, playing a leadership role in implementing standards of service excellence to ensure the delivery of high-quality services to members and participants. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on responsibility for the development, implementation and maintenance of a fully integrated and comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all facility assets within the HFA division, including asset refurbishment, health and safety, cleaning standards, capital investment, and major projects. In addition, this role will bring technical facility expertise related to asset and risk management to all operational areas across the association to support to the Association Risk Management plan to ensure compliance.Responsibilities:
  • Maintain YMCA standards and is a positive role model for the YMCA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment to Service
  • Provides Hands on technical leadership and direction to the Facility Services team in 5 HFA branches ensuring clean, safe and well-maintained facilities
  • Provides direct supervision to skilled and semi-skilled staff as required
  • Requirement for strong relationships and support to HFA General Managers and dotted line relationship to Facility Service Managers for oversight of all Asset and Risk related to branch activities
  • Acts as a hub for all Branch activities to be performed on equipment and/or building systems.
  • Provides project management leadership for refurbishment and capital projects as required
  • Oversees the effective management of the YMCA’s physical assets ensuring optimum equipment reliability, uptime, economic life of assets, safety records, environmental compliance as required, and return on asset investment
  • Assists Facility Service managers in developing, implementing, scheduling and monitoring of preventative maintenance schedules for both land and aquatics environments both interior and exterior to the building
  • Supports performance appraisals of Facility Mechanics and Handyman roles.
  • Accountable for the development and management of the Asset departmental expense budgets in 5 branches in coordination with branch General Managers
  • Oversees and writes contract services provided by third party agents to ensure quality standards are met and contract compliance is achieved
  • Participates as an active member of the Branch Leadership Teams as required and fills in for Facility Managers on vacation etc.
  • Coordinates support mechanisms to ensure branch support with 7 days a week coverage
  • Develops and sustains good member, staff, volunteer and supplier relations on a daily basis, acting as a role model for staff and volunteers
  • Oversees Risk Management program and initiatives, ensures compliance and due diligence in all regulatory requirements. Work with agencies to maintain statutory requirements as required and audits regularly for proactive approach.
Qualifications:
  • Engineering, Building Maintenance Diploma or equivalent education
  • 10 years + trades and contractor management experience in building operations, specifically: maintenance operations and cleaning departments
  • Certification in one or more of the following areas:
  • Electrical/Plumbing/Mechanical
  • HVAC systems, Gas and/or Refrigeration
  • Pool operations, Class A and Spa (CPO level required, or achievable);
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated coaching and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems
  • Strong project management and budget experience
  • Proven record of risk related entities including Life Safety, Health & Safety, Pool Operations Public Health Regulation 565 at work
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft and Asset Management Software
  • Demonstrated contract and project management experience
  • Strong preventative maintenance planning experience
  • Current Police Records Check issued within the past six months is a condition of employment
