The Faculty has nine schools and departments, with undergraduate and graduate degree programs offering over 50 degree options, a dozen research centres and groups, and multiple research platforms. The Faculty includes approximately 140 full-time Faculty who conduct research and teach in our educational programs and about 70 staff who provide support services to departments, programs, faculty and students. The Faculty enrolls about 4,800 undergraduate and 375 graduate students.The Dean’s office provides strategic direction and overall administrative support and coordination working with both local departments, schools, and programs and Faculty-wide units such as the Office of the Associate Dean Academic. The annual operating budget of the Faculty is approximately $50 million.Job SummaryAs a key member of the Dean’s Office administrative leadership team within the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Manager, Finance and Data Analysis manages all aspects of the Facultys finances and financial data. Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Administration, and as the supervisor of a small team, the Manager, Finance and Data Analysis is responsible for developing, recommending, implementing, and overseeing financial and budgeting processes in the Faculty of Social Sciences in accordance with University policies and procedures and in support of Faculty goals and objectives. Working in collaboration with the Director of Finance and Administration and the Dean, this position is responsible for the preparation of financial reports and financial data management including operating funds, trusts/endowments, research funds, graduate funds and financial gifts. The Manager, Finance and Data Analysis is responsible for working independently with Departmental and Program leadership, individual faculty members and senior staff in planning budgets and ensuring timely and detailed financial reporting within the University and to external agencies.With a talent for process improvement and communications, the Manager, Finance and Data Analysis works with the Dean, Associate Dean (Academic), and the Associate Deans of Graduate Studies and Research to produce and interpret information to support the strategic goals of the Faculty. Furthermore, they interpret trends, forecast expected changes and assist with making financial recommendations. The Manager, Financial and Data Analysis works as part of the Deans Office in the Faculty of Social Sciences to lead and support key planning activities within the Faculty.With the help of their team, and the support of the Director of Finance and Administration, the Manager, Finance and Data Analysis will assist in building knowledge and capacity among Faculty members of the university’s budgeting and financial processes and systems including Hyperion, MOSAIC and Oracle BI.EducationA Bachelors degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field and demonstrated progress towards attaining a professional accounting designation (CPA).ExperienceThis role is best suited to someone with 3-5 years of prior experience in finance role looking to expand their influence and skills in a dynamic environment that is supportive and focused on operational excellence.A proven record of high accomplishment in problem solving, and demonstrated abilities in management and leadership, preferably in an academic environment.Proven skills in financial reporting and data analysis, and strong financial management skills.
