About usParkette is a shop dedicated to kids & the kids-at-heart featuring clothes, books, toys, art supplies, homeware, stationery and other treasures for kids of all ages sourced straight from our heart to yours. Parkette is located in Hamilton, ON with both a brick-and-mortar and an online sales channel.We believe in fun for all and the power of play to bring us closer. Parkettes goals are to offer products designed to bring joy to customers and their families, and to support companies, artists and makers that have a considered approach to the packaging and materials that they use, and are committed to manufacturing responsibly and with care.We are currently seeking a Shop Assistant or Assistants to assist in the day-to-day activities of our retail business. The ideal candidates will be well organized, detail-oriented and have experience working in a retail environment. Our staff works closely with our customers, so were looking for team members who enjoy working with people of all ages. We are looking for one or two part-time position hires.Hours of operation for our brick-and-mortar shop are Tuesday to Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sundays from 11 AM to 4 PM. We are open to discussing and working with a candidates preferred schedule.Shop Assistant Duties & Responsibilities

  • Greets customers and makes them feel comfortable
  • Interacts with customers, offering assistance and responding to queries about products and purchases
  • Provides recommendations according to customer needs or preferences
  • Locates merchandise for customers and places orders, where necessary
  • Prepares online orders for shipping or local pick-up
  • Uploads new product to Shopify platform as needed
  • Introduces promotions and new products to customers
  • Operates cash register and handles cash payments and credit card processing
  • Handles refunds, exchanges and returns
  • Documents sales by updating customer records
  • Stays up to date with sales trends for better service and achievement of sales
  • Knows customer base and what they want to buy
  • Knows product base and how to display them effectively
  • Cleans up workplace and make sure its safe for customers and employees.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma
  • Two years working in the service or retail industry preferred
Required Skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Friendly and strong commitment to customer service
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Basic math and accounting skills
Preferred Skills
  • Experience operating a cash register
  • Experience operating point-of-sale (POS) transactions
