Position SummaryThe Clinical Aide is a temporary position with the aim to provide healthcare students and non-registered healthcare workers with relevant experience in patient care while working in a collaborative team environment. Clinical Aides are unregulated health care providers and will work as part of an inter-professional team under supervision of regulated health care providers. The Clinical Aide collaborates with the team to provide excellent patient centered care. The Clinical Aides will work in the Medical B6, B7, and B8 programs, the Surgical program and the Cardiology program.Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living such as personal care, toileting, feeding, and recreational activities as noted in the care plan.
  • Collaborate with the inter-professional care team in clinical discussions related to observed patient care, needs, and outcomes.
  • Provide assistance with lifting, turning, transferring, transporting and ambulating
  • Answer call bells, addressing patient concerns where appropriate and advising nursing staff when nursing assistance is required
  • Hourly Rounding (Pain, Positioning, Personal care, Patient Safety)
  • Engage in additional skills via delegation as approved by unit leadership (and as applicable)
Qualifications
  • Current 2nd, 3rd or 4th year students enrolled in a Clinical program recognized by an Ontario College, such as Nursing, Occupational or Physical Therapy, or related.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with a variety of patient populations within a hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow BCHS policies and procedures to guide their clinical practice.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to lift using appropriate techniques and bend, push and pull using good body mechanics.
  • Reliable individual with excellent attendance record and able to work all shifts.
