Job Description

Under the authority of the Direction of Community Services, Aaniavituqarq (Crisis center) and the Reintegration Center are regional residential treatment resources for adults living in Nunavik who have severe and persistent mental health problems and/or intellectual handicaps. Both centers offer day programs as well as external services, including medication supervision and delivery.The Program Manager is responsible for the overall functioning of both centers, including direct supervision of the Educators. In close collaboration with the Social Aids, Educators play a central role in residential, day program, and external services to adults in Nunavik who suffer from psychiatric illness and/or intellectual disabilities.TASKS AND RESPONSABILITÉSUnder the authority of the Direction of Community Services and supervised by the Program Manager of Aaniavituqarq and Reintegration Center, the Educator is responsible for:

  • Participating with a Social Aid in client intakes and informing the client of the rules and activities of the center.
  • Providing observations and information concerning the psychosocial needs of clients.
  • Planning, developing, and implementing intervention and individualized services plans for each client in concert with the client, his/her family, social aids, and other professionals.
  • Developing personalized daily programs for the client with his/her participation.
  • Leading required clinical activities.
  • Completing clinical recording and client observation reports. Provide statistics.
  • Modeling and demonstrating skills of residential care to the Social Aids.
  • Supervising and participating directly in domestic activities such as preparing meals, eating meals, house chores, shopping, etc.;
  • Providing support and direction to residents with various day-to-day living activities such as personal hygiene, health issues, budgeting money and paying bills, etc.).
  • Supervising administration of prescribed medication for residents and day program participants.
  • Monitoring clients reaction to medication and advise medical team on a regular basis.
  • Supervising local staff and assisting in the management of clients behavior through proactive strategies targeting challenging behaviors.
  • Promoting client participation in community activities of all kinds.
  • Promoting positive relations between the Center, clients, and the community.
  • Assuming responsibility for the safety of clients in all environments (at the Center, in the community, on fishing/hunting trips, etc.).
  • When necessary, participating in physical intervention with clients who are aggressive and require restraint.
  • Assuring smooth functioning of the day-to-day operation of the Center.
  • Serving as a crucial link between the client, his/her family, medical and nursing services and other allied services and organizations.
  • Providing regular feedback to the Program Manager.
Qualifications
  • DEC in Specialized Education
Experience required
  • Some experience with psychiatric illness would be an asset.
Essential skills and aptitudes
  • Basic computer skills in a variety of programs including Word, Lotus Notes, etc.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Good oral communication skills in English and French.
  • Ability to write in English and French would be an asset.
  • Capacity to exercise informal leadership and solve problems.
  • Respect for Inuit culture and tradition.
Conditions and benefits
  • Full time permanent position
  • Based in Inukjuak
  • Salary between $24.78/week and $35.67/week
  • Day and evening (+ on-call) 7,75hrs per day - 38,75hrs per week
  • Cargo premium: $98.09/week
  • Remoteness premium: $203.66/week without dependents and $358.99/week
  • Furnished housing provided;
  • 3 to 4 annual outings depending on status;
  • Maximum of 16 weeks of leave per year;
  • Group insurance;
  • Moving expenses assumed by the employer;
  • Storage fees, if any, paid by the employer;
