A dynamic senior administrative role for an experienced leader with expertise in Early Learning and Elementary EducationLocated in the stunning surroundings of BC’s interior, the Kamloops-Thompson School District is a diverse and growing environment committed to great local education through our 5-Year Strategic Plan, Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement, and Long-Range Facilities Report.Serving 15,206 students, 2,741 students of Aboriginal ancestry in 47 schools our District offers a variety of enhancement programs, including: French immersion, International Baccalaureate, sports academies, trades programs, a K-12 fine arts school, Montessori, and an elementary science and technology school. School District No. 73 is located on the territory of the Secwepemc Nation and serves 7 local bands in a large geographical area spanning from Blue River to Clearwater, Barriere, Kamloops, Chase, and Logan Lake and Savona.As a key member of the District’s senior administrative team, you will report directly to the Superintendent of Schools. Relying upon your experience as an early learning and elementary educational leader at school and district levels, you are responsible for the overall supervision and leadership of early learning and elementary school programs, as well as the supervision of program areas assigned by the Superintendent.Culturally aware, sensitive and astute, you are cognizant of the importance of addressing equity and excellence for Indigenous students and students. Your consistent, positive outlook—paired with your proven expertise with advancing a wide range of successful initiatives—has provided you with the background to effectively resolve the complex issues that arise in this high-pressure role. A dynamic, high-energy leader, you offer first-rate communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.The Assistant Superintendent of Early Learning and Elementary Education will report directly to the Superintendent of Schools and work collaboratively with school and District leaders to supervise and lead early learning and elementary educational programs in the District.Primary responsibilities:Provides curricular and programming leadership for early learning and elementary programming to enact mandated outcomes and standards.Assists in the development, monitoring, and ongoing revising of the District Strategic Plan.Supports early learning and elementary school leaders with school improvement (planning, implementing, monitoring, reporting) based on provincial and District data analysis.Supports early learning and elementary school leaders with professional growth planning process.Leads professional learning initiatives focused on equalizing opportunity for all students to reach their potential to be literate and numerate.Collaborates to ensure that Indigenous ways of being, knowing, and learning are central to programming within all early learning and elementary programs.Develops and maintains positive relationships with partners (e.g., provincial ministries, local unions, provincial and local agencies) to support success of children and their families in early learning and elementary programs.Places a high emphasis on student and staff safety and well-being and sets high expectations for student and staff conduct.Establishes and sustains effective working relationships with principals, school staffs, and District operations and business personnel to achieve outcomes focused on student success.Collaboratively problem solves with school and District leaders to enact provincial and district guidelines when responding to requests, queries or concerns.Advises and assists the Superintendent in all aspects of District operations, management and administration.Develops, recommends, and monitors budget allocations for elementary schools and departments, and operates in a fiscally prudent and responsible manner.Through the Superintendent, assists the Board in fulfilling its governance and policy-making role.Leads a District committee to review and ensure administrative procedures are up-to-date and staff are well informed.Reports regularly and as necessary to the Superintendent to ensure effective problem solving and decision making.Performs other duties as requested by the Superintendent.The Successful Candidate will demonstrate:care and respect for everyonea genuine interest in seeking diverse perspectivescollaborative leadershipcreative and critical thinkinganalytical information processingstrategic thinkingsolution-oriented problem solvingexcellent verbal and written communication skillsflexibility and adaptabilitytimely and responsive decision makingQualificationsa minimum of a Master of Education Degree (Educational Leadership, Early Childhood, Curriculum or related field)a minimum of five years teaching experienceschool-based administrative and district leadership experienceextensive knowledge and experience in early learning and elementary curriculum and assessmentthe ability to speak fluently in French and English is an asset, not a pre-requisiteThis position requires a valid BC Teacher Certificate, a valid BC driver’s license, and business use of a personal vehicle.
