Type:Permanent Full TimeLocation:MerrittInterior Community Services - Merritt is looking to fill a permanent full-time position of Community Support Worker in our Community Inclusion Program in Merritt, BC.The Community Support Worker role provides individual one on one support to clients with developmental disabilities in areas including community inclusion, accessesing community resources, emotional support and life skills development.Responsibilities may include:Providing support in daily life skills including physical, vocational, recreational, social, and emotional development.Assisting clients to integrate in the community and to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible.Assisting clients with activities, shopping, errands, household cleanliness and food preparation.Performing personal/hygiene care depending on client needs.Transporting participants.REQUIRED EDUCATION,TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Education Assistant and Community Support Certificate and recent related experience supporting and assisting persons with physical and developmental disabilities. Or a combination of education, training and experience.Valid Class 5 driver’s license, safe driving record (abstract)Own transportation with Business Use and 3 million liability insurance may be required.Current CPR-C certification.Non –Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI), Suicide Awareness (safeTALK), Safe Food Handling and Medication Management training.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interact effectively and support individuals with physical and developmental disabilitiesStrong experience providing life skills support and supporting individuals in their personal development towards individual goalsStrong ability to recognize, analyze and deal effectively and proactively with aggressive behavioursStrong ability to handle crisis situations effectivelyAbility to encourage participation in appropriate and healthy community inclusion activitiesAbility to work effectively independently and as a strong member of a teamGood communication, documentation, interpersonal and conflict management skillsAbility to work cooperatively and effectively with other professionals, co-workers and supervisorsStrong ability to set professional boundariesStrong ability to problem solve issues and situations as they ariseOTHER:This position is 35 hrs per week.
