Job Description

If you dont meet 100% of the preferred skills outlined in this job posting, tell us why youd be a great fit for Urban Systems in your cover letter!About the OpportunityOur Kamloops office is looking for a capable and enthusiastic environmental student to join our team for a 4- or 8-month co-op work term starting in January 2023!We understand the need for you to have meaningful work terms during your co-op education, so we strive to build opportunities that are challenging, multifaceted and rewarding. Our goal is for you to come away with an enhanced skill set that will serve you well in your future career as a professional.You will be involved in project work related biophysical assessments, Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments, environmental monitoring and water resources assessments and will have the opportunity to work with our Local Government and Indigenous communities and Environmental, Planning and Water practices.Coupled with unmatched learning opportunities, you can expect to be involved in the following:

  • Hydrometric stream assessments
  • Fish and Fish Habitat Assessments
  • Phase 1/Stage 1 Environmental Site Assessments
  • Environmental permitting
  • Research and review project-relevant documents
  • Environmental monitoring field work
  • Technical writing and communications
  • Public engagement
  • Project support and administration
This is not an exhaustive list, and in keeping with our philosophy of "hands-on" learning and growth, you will be given as much freedom and responsibility as you demonstrate you can handle.About YouOur preferred candidate is currently enrolled in an environmental science degree program, is available for a 4- or 8-month work term. Previously related experience will be considered an asset. Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following skills, strengths and interests:
  • You have been exposed to climate change science, hydrology, and community planning
  • You wish to round out your skills and knowledge with exposure to some of the following: climate change, water resources, community planning, environmental monitoring, habitat assessments, and environmental permitting
  • You are a self-starter that can work independently and collaborate effectively with others
  • You are attracted to the consulting industry with the ability to work with a variety of clients, contractors, and other consultants
  • You desire to work in a fast-paced environment with a team of professionals who are deeply committed to exceeding client expectations
