Job Description

About usThe Kamloops Community Volunteer Services Society, operating as Volunteer Kamloops, is committed to the concept that volunteerism improves the quality of life in the community and, therefore, supports and strengthens volunteerism through promotion, recruitment, education, orientation, and referral services for volunteers and organizations in our community and surrounding areas.The FOCUS/Therapeutic Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for the administration, promotion, and coordination of therapeutic volunteer work experiences for mental health consumers. The Coordinator will also participate in the ongoing promotion of volunteerism and effective volunteer management practices in support of the wider mission of Volunteer Kamloops. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accept referrals from occupational therapists, Kamloops Mental Health staff, other referring health professionals, and self-referred clients.
  • Consult with referring professionals to determine whether the client is seeking an unpaid volunteer opportunity or a volunteer experience with incentive payments through the Therapeutic Volunteer Program (TVP).
  • In consultation with referring professionals and the client, identify goals and expectations.
  • Arrange and conduct placement interviews as required.
  • Develop and maintain harmonious relationships with community agencies.
  • Develop and maintain a register of volunteer placement opportunities for program participants.
  • Coordinate the placement of clients in appropriate volunteer positions, giving due consideration to their interests, needs, skills, and abilities.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up with referring professionals, clients, and agency staff.
  • Administer client and agency satisfaction surveys on a regular basis.
  • Administer volunteer incentive payments on a monthly basis.
  • Evaluate individual success.
  • Maintain statistical information on the program activities.
  • Assist with Volunteer Kamloops special events as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Excellent knowledge of the volunteer management process.
  • Able to work with marginalized groups/individuals.
  • Able to work independently and as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of local community resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving/analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Grade 12 completion or G.E.D. equivalency.
  • Volunteer Management and/or Human Service Worker Certificate is a definite asset.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 license and reliable transportation.
