Job Description

POSITION SUMMARYForestry Technicians are responsible for completing high quality and timely forestry services including Block Layout, Silviculture Surveys, Timber Cruising, GIS planning & mapping, and more.   • Perform all forestry work to the highest standards
  • Lay out cutblock boundaries, roads, and streams with precision and accuracy
  • Ensure that all digital data is accurate and coherent
  • Skillfully navigate offroad/bush terrain using ATV/Snowmobiles to ensure high production in field work
  • Obtain and Record Accurate Field Data Using Both Notes and Technology
  • Addresses and resolves questions, concerns, and/or complaints throughout the project
  • Ensures compliance with federal, provincial, local, industry, contractual, and company regulations, standards, specifications, and best practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
COMPENSATION
  • Production-rate or day-rate pay options based on project/location
KEY COMPETENCIESThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to be successful in this role, but are not necessarily all inclusive.
  • Experience successfully maintaining a positive attitude while working in a team environment with competing priorities
  • Strong computer skills and highly proficient in ArcGis, MS Office Suite, Windows, Google Suite
  • Ability to think critically, in the assessment of materials that will help team understand new concepts and procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think individually as well as collaboratively when approaching personnel issues
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, and written correspondence
  • Ability to lead and train new employees
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma required
  • Post-Secondary education in Forestry, or related field is an asset (e.g. Biology, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Management).
  • Certified or eligible to be certified as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF), Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) (RPFT), Professional Biologist (PBIO), or other similar designations preferred
  • Registered or eligible for registration with The Association of BC Forest Professionals, Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals, or Association of Saskatchewan Forestry Professionals.
  • Minimum (1) year of Forestry or related work experience required
  • Minimum (1) year of progressive leadership experience
  • Current Province Driver’s License & Clean Driving Record required
  • Experience working with and managing team members across multiple functional roles (Preferred)
  • Minimum (1) year ATV and Snowmobile experience
  • Minimum (1) year experience using GPS Units, ArcMap, and Arc Collector
  • 4x4 vehicle an asset ($/KM reimbursement for work usage)
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work outdoors, in all weather conditions
  • Rough ground, slopes
  • Work and travel in locations throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia
  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds
  • Must be available to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends, as required
  • Possibility of camp/shift work
  • Pre-employment, pre-access, and ongoing drug testing may be required
