The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.About the RoleSchedule: Monday - FridayPosition Reports To: Health and Safety ManagerPosition OverviewThis position will be an integral component of the Health and Safety team in providing guidance, team leadership and operational support for the New Afton Mine.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership to the team responsible for Health and Safety programsWork with the site superintendent team to ensure alignment on general Health and Safety risk management across mining, processing, and maintenance operational departmentsIntegrate with the site team to support the site Health and Safety Management System (COR Certification and Towards Sustainable Mining based)Provide support with the department software programs (INX, TapRoot, IComm and BowTie Risk Assessment)Remain current with technical advancements and integrate continual improvement into operational risk managementProvide team members support in professional development opportunities and departmental responsibilitiesAct in a proactive manner to anticipate and manage problems with the appropriate urgencyQualifications10+ years in Health and SafetyFire and Mine Rescue experience would be considered an assetExperience in mining would be considered an asset, specifically underground miningOccupational Health and Safety DiplomaPreference will be given to those candidates that possess a Degree in Safety Engineering3+ Years of experience leading a group of technical staffExperience in Root Cause Analysis incident investigationExperience with Behaviour Based Safety SystemsExperience in creating SOPs, Policies and Training DocumentationExperience in auditingPreference will be given to those candidates with knowledge of the HSRCStrong communication, time management and organizational skillsKnowledge of the ICMM approach to Critical Control ManagementInclusion, Equal Opportunity, AccessibilityNew Gold is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
