Job Description

ROLE:The Human Resources Coordinator (HRC) supports Surerus Murphy Joint Venture on the Trans Mountain Expansion Project, with collaboration from the corporate Human Resources (HR) Department and Project Leaders. The HRC is responsible for assisting the Project HR Lead with all project HR related administration, employee and labour relations, onboarding, investigations and performance management. The HRC will support the HR Lead in advising leaders on best practices to support the business and mitigate risks. The HRC will provide support at a level that builds successful relationships between SMJV and its Client, various governmental agencies and within our organization to encourage a culture in line with our values of Never Harm, Trust, Integrity and Assured Delivery.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support, implement and administer corporate and project specific HR programs, such as, recruitment, performance management, respectful workplace, employment processing, employee engagement and retention.
    • Provide recruitment support to Project Leaders in collaboration with the Project HR Lead and Talent Acquisition Advisor. Job description development and advertisement, recruitment (as needed), interviews, compensation recommendations, selection of candidate(s) and onboarding.
    • Execute site level onboarding of field placed “direct” and “indirect” positions for name hires, in collaboration with on-site payroll and health & safety departments.
    • Drug and Alcohol program administration and notifications in collaboration with the Project HR Lead and SMJV Corporate support.
    • In consultation with the Project HR Lead, provide advice, solutions, recommendations, and risk assessments to Field Leaders, Department Leaders and Project Management, on HR matters in line with company policies, best practices, union and regulatory obligations.
    • Provide support to field direct and indirect staff for general HR queries and workplace issues.
    • Conduct and complete exit interviews.
    • Work with Project Leaders on professional development of their direct and/or indirect reports in annual reviews.
  • Analyze project data to identify opportunities, provide solutions and administer approved processes to improve retention, morale and productivity on the project.
    • Maintain accurate employee records.
    • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all administrative functions adhering to applicable privacy laws.
    • Work closely with the HR Team to provide feedback and implement policies, programs, processes, functions, and activities.
    • With guidance and support from the Project HR Lead, liaise with union shop stewards and provide grievance support.
    • Collaborate with the Indigenous and Local Engagement team to optimize employment in the surrounding Indigenous and Local communities.
    • Strategize with, and support, the Indigenous and Local Engagement team to execute their Indigenous and Local Engagement Plan.
    • Accountability for the completion of accurate human resources reports.
    • Participate, and be a company ambassador, at industry and community forums and events.
    • Measure program and project performance, including post implementation reviews, provide project evaluations, lessons learned and assessment, with recommendations.
Note: in addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the Project and the Company.:POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Qualifications
    • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a discipline focus in Human Resource Development.
Experience
    • Three plus (3+) years of experience in a Human Resources role, preferably in the construction industry working for a construction contractor.
    • One plus (1+) year(s) in a Human Resources Advisor role or similar.
    • On site, field-based experience considered an asset.
Skills and Knowledge
    • Understanding of the oil and gas pipeline construction industry preferred.
    • Strong problem-solving, communication and presentation skills.
    • Ability to develop and facilitate trustworthy partnerships/collaborations.
    • Self-starter, who excels in a high pace environment.
    • Knowledge of Union workforce collaboration and collective bargaining agreements.
    • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
    • Contributor experience in HR best practice process and procedure implementation for a small to medium company is considered an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:This position is site based in Kamloops or Merritt, BC. Project schedules are typically Tuesday to Saturday, 10 hours per day.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:The Human Resources Coordinator will report to the Project Human Resources Lead or designate.
