Applications received after the "closing date for internal CUPE applicants" will be considered alongside external applicants.Full/Part TimeFull TimeSupport TypeOngoingAnticipated Start Date3/10/2022Position End Date (If Applicable)The Hours of work are subject to change depending upon departmental requirementsScheduleThe hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 7 hours a day, 8:00 am to 4:00 pmSchedule DescriptionDUTIESThe Indigenous Education Supervisor will develop, coordinate, lead, supervise, implement, maintain, analyze and assess Indigenous Education staff, Indigenous Education initiatives and the Aboriginal Service Plan program and activities. This position provides leadership, professional writing, financial management, program management, project analysis, successful program coordination, and monitoring of Indigenous Education programs, services and partnerships.MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises staff, including planning, scheduling, assigning, organizing and checking of work and providing feedback.
  • Manage, supervise and coordinate community partnership contracts to ensure Indigenous Education funds and projects are executed with quality and consistency and meet requisite protocols.
  • Supervises, creates, and recommends best practices for internal financial and Indigenous Education forms, policies and procedures.
  • Supervises, manages and executes the signing of Indigenous Education documents and ensuring the adherence to TRU policies and procedures.
  • Develops, supervises, implements, and coordinates Indigenous Education initiatives, programs and activities supporting Indigenous Education.
  • Manages and implements Indigenous Education projects for the maintenance, update and reporting associated with TRUs Indigenous Education department.
  • Provides major research and project report writing by collecting, analyzing and organizing information to meet the Aboriginal Service Plan reporting requirements established by the Ministry of Advanced Education. Drafts, revises and edits the professional and successful report writing of the Aboriginal Service Plan and Indigenous Education proposals.
  • Prepares financial reports and financial accounting specifically for the Indigenous Education Aboriginal Service Plan and for TRU Finance. Provides specific financial reporting for Ministry of Advanced Education in accordance with the deadlines as set by the Ministry.
  • Compiles, leads, supervises and submits budget/program reports with the year-end and budgeting activities for the Indigenous Education division and with the year-end budgeting for the Aboriginal Service Plan.
  • Initiates and monitors Purchase Orders (POs) and Professional Services Agreements (PSAs) and ensures timely submission and follow-up of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable associated with TRUs Aboriginal Service Plan.
  • Leads in the tracking and monitoring of expenditures as they relate to the Ministry of Advanced Education Aboriginal Service Plan and communication with TRU Finance.
  • Develops and maintains corporate financial files; sets up and maintains various files, documents and records for the Indigenous Education Aboriginal Service Plan and for TRU Finance.
  • Supervision and maintenance of the Indigenous Education budget and codes using the institutional computerized accounting package and in relationship to the TRU Aboriginal Service Plan.
  • Liaises, manages and coordinates follow-up with TRU departments, Deans, program chairs, faculty, student support services and regional campuses regarding Aboriginal Service Plan and Indigenous Education programs and activities.
  • Liaises, manages, and coordinates with First Nation Bands and Indigenous Organizations regarding information, support, communication related to TRU Indigenous Education and TRU Aboriginal Service Plan.
  • Community leadership and first point of contact resource for all inquiries and requests relating to Indigenous Education and the Aboriginal Service Plan program and activities.
REPORTS TOExecutive Director for Indigenous EducationQUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION:
  • Four years post-secondary including a certificate in Public Administration or Indigenous Education
EXPERIENCE:
  • Five (5) years relevant Indigenous Education experience, including the following:
    • Government report writing, financial reporting and computerized accounting systems for Indigenous programming
    • Government-funded Indigenous programs
    • Working within a diverse education environment, specifically Indigenous Education
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
  • Ability to supervise, train and mentor others, including prioritizing, scheduling and assigning workloads
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with staff and clients with courtesy, tact and diplomacy in a cross-cultural environment
  • Ability to exercise considerable independent action
  • Advanced knowledge of electronic spreadsheets, word processing, and data bases
  • Ability to work successfully in an Indigenous and diverse learning environment
  • Ability to maintain an excellent level of confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Knowledge and experience in Ministry of Advanced Education financial reporting and Aboriginal Service Plan
  • Works independently with minimum direction or structure
  • Valid BC Class 5 drivers license
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Sitting at desk and computer for periods of time
  • General office conditions
  • Some travel will be required.
