Applications received after the "closing date for internal CUPE applicants" will be considered alongside external applicants.Full/Part TimeFull TimeSupport TypeOngoingAnticipated Start Date24/10/2022Position End Date (If Applicable)The Hours of work are subject to change depending upon departmental requirementsScheduleThe hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 7 hours a day, 8:30 am to 4:30 pmSchedule DescriptionDUTIESIs responsible for the direct supervision of the International Student Services team including the planning, scheduling, assignment and checking of work; coordinates the planning, development and organization of support programs and services for international students; and performs international student advisory duties.MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides direct supervision to International Student Advisors and Divisional Secretaries including participating on hiring committees and providing input into performance reviews.
  • Provides for team planning and scheduling, assigns and checks work and projects, monitors service levels.
  • Responsible for the training of new staff, monitoring progress and developing associated training materials.
  • Coordinates the planning, development and organization of support programs and services for international students, including housing, orientations, activities and events and scholarship programs.
  • Performs the duties of an International Student Advisor.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with educational institutions, agents, professional and community organizations, and other TRU departments.
  • Compiles relevant information; maintains a resource library; writes newsletters, prepares handouts and other informational material as required. Ensures information is updated and disseminated to internal/external representatives.
  • Provides and coordinates ISA support, including student services and partner liaison, for short-term training activities.
  • Assists with recruitment and promotional activities.
  • Oversees standards, maintenance and reporting aspects of the ISP database related to international students.
REPORTS TOManager, International Student Services, TRU WorldQUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION:
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or four (4) years of post-secondary education
EXPERIENCE:
  • Five years related experience including a minimum of three years work experience in a supervisory or coordination role in a multi-cultural student services or advising environment and a minimum of two years working or studying in a foreign country
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
  • Fluency with a foreign language (to be specified at time of posting)
  • Valid B.C. drivers license
  • Ability to supervisor 10 to 15 staff members
  • Ability to plan, schedule and assign work
  • Ability to train and monitor new staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a culturally diverse audience, both verbally and in writing, including strong interviewing, listening and interpreting skills and the ability to deliver presentations
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Working in close proximity with students and overseas clients in office and public settings
  • Travel required
