This position provides oversight of undergraduate research education, programming, strategies, referrals and technologies to support students’ development personally, socially and intellectually. The Strategist will partner with appropriate programs and departments to provide proactive assistance to support student success, academic engagement and retention. Workloads may fluctuate and alter to meet the demands and needs of students. Special project work to support undergraduate research, public engagement, student success and retention, as assigned by the Associate Director, Student Research and Public Engagement is an important part of the position. The incumbent is accountable to coordinate projects to completion.MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides leadership to plan, develop, evaluate, coordinate and implement proactive undergraduate research and public engagement programming in order to ensure effective student development.
  • Researches, develops and reviews undergraduate research and public engagement programming and opportunities to align with TRU’s Strategic Plan and departmental goals.
  • Coaches, advises and supports students on undergraduate research opportunities and practices.
  • Develops information and resources for a diverse student population.
  • Educates and promotes programming internally and externally.
  • Recommends and collaborates to develop policy and processes with respect to student success and development.
  • Designs, organizes and facilitates presentations and workshops related to student research and public engagement programming.
  • Coordinates, prepares and maintains documentation, records and reports including related budget and expense requirements.
  • Works with on-campus academic supports to build undergraduate research and public engagement activities and events that promote student learning and enhance student success.
  • Coordinates programming and support efforts for special populations of students.
  • Develops and emphasizes community and university partnerships through collaboration of various events and activities to support undergraduate research engagement and success.
  • Consults with peer mentorship leads and collaborates with on and off-campus supports to support student undergraduate research and public engagement opportunities.
  • Participates in relevant committee and working groups to initiate and build student academic engagement and success.
  • Maintains currency in undergraduate research and public engagement practices.
  • Coordinates assignments for peer mentor supports.
REPORTS TOAssociate Director, Student Research and Public EngagementQUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field plus 2 years post-graduate studies leading to a certification/designation
EXPERIENCE:
  • Three years’ experience working with students; including:
    • Experience working with relational database software
    • Experience with research methods and conducting research
    • Experience with knowledge mobilization and translation

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Regular contact with students with a variety of disabilities including dealing with challenging or difficult personalities
  • Some off campus travel
  • General office conditions; sitting at a desk or computer for extended periods of time
