Job Description

Title Library and Pretrial CoordinatorStatus ContractLocation KRCC, Kamloops, BCHours 34 Hours/WeekSchedule Flexible day schedule with some evening hoursClosing Date November 24, 2022, or until hireCompensation $31.62/Hr.Posting # 2022-30At the Kamloops and District Elizabeth Fry Society (KDEFS), we are passionate about the cause we serve– building a just and equitable community where women, gender-diverse people, and families are supported and empowered to thrive.We are recruiting a Library and Pretrial Coordinator to join our growing non-profit organization, driven by feminist values.Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre (KRCC) library for inmates by maintaining the inventory, and loan system.
  • Restock the library with appropriate, relevant reading material.
  • Consult with other program staff and contractors at KRCC to ensure the library has relevant material to support other programs.
  • Maintain a system for special requests by inmates.
  • Provide information resources for inmates to research legal matters and assist inmates with routine legal inquiries.
  • Conduct legal research on behalf of the inmates as necessary.
  • Ensure an appropriate system is in place and maintained for cataloguing books and other reading material.
  • Assist remanded inmates with legal aid applications and obtaining resources to conduct legal research.
  • Liaise with the correctional centre staff.
  • Compile monthly statistics and prepare monthly billing forms and reports.
  • Provide training and supervision for community and inmate volunteers.
  • Perform other relevant duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Requirements
  • Certificate, diploma, or degree in a field relevant to Social Services, Law, or Corrections
  • Ability to work effectively in a correctional facility
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Utmost care for the confidentiality of all organizational, staff, and client information
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual and as a team member
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent understanding and application of personal and professional boundaries
  • Maintaining sensitivity towards cultural, religious, economic & social beliefs, values & opinions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office Programs
