The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the delivery of invasive plant program activities on provincial public lands and collaborates and cooperates with all levels of government, including First Nations and non-government agencies to accomplish this work.As part of the Range Branch Invasive Plant team, the Biological Control Specialist, will lead the development and operational delivery of biological control to address invasive plant species throughout BC. Specific responsibilities will include working with international and national Governments and partners, introduction of new biocontrol agents, monitoring their establishment and effectiveness at controlling the target invasive plant species populations, overseeing the collection and redistribution of established biocontrol agents, conducting trials, developing standards, informing policy, and sharing results to inform practitioners and the broader national and international research scientist community. Invasive Plant Specialists including the Biological control specialist are experts in the field of invasive plant management that provide expert technical advice and support to regional staff, all levels of Government, and stakeholders.This position participates in program administration including development and management of annual budgets, and administration and monitoring of Government Transfer Agreements and contracts. As the Biocontrol Specialist, you will be required to remain current on emerging biological control opportunities, invasive plant threats, and research results. You will also work to ensure biocontrol release and monitoring activities data are collected and entered in the Provincial database.As an ideal candidate, you will be self-motivated, flexible, curious and have strong teamwork and analytical thinking skills. You will have an extensive knowledge of integrated pest management, particularly biocontrol, and welcome the challenges and rewards of working with diverse groups toward common objectives.
