Application RestrictionsOpen to both Internal and externalJob TypeAdministrative/ManagementPosting In effect from16/11/2021Closing Application Date30/11/2021Applications will be reviewed commencing the closing application date and may continue until the position is filled.Full/Part TimeFull TimeAdmin TypeOngoingAnticipated Start Date10/1/2022Position End Date (If Applicable)DUTIESAs a senior member of the Marketing and Communications (MarCom) team, the Manager, Communications Content will lead the creation of content, including planning, coordination and reporting.This position requires a professional who will lead and inspire a team of media and content specialists in developing well-crafted, strategic content for a diverse set of audiences - internal and external, through earned, shared and owned media.Communicating digitally, on social media, through email and via mobile is a first language for you, and coaching others to adapt one message to many audiences and platforms is second nature.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and implement a strategic content plan for earned and owned media, including TRU’s social media platforms, Newsroom, and other digital communication channels.
  • Serve as chief editor for the institution, including oversight of language style guides.
  • Create, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of content plans and adjust as needed.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, and manage staff.
  • Be an active member of the Strategic Communications planning team, collaborating with and learning from fellow MarCom practitioners.
  • Serve as member of various institutional committees.
  • Stay informed of trends and bring forward viable new ideas to support the continuous improvement of TRU communications.
  • Coach team members to craft content and copy that aligns with objectives.
Oversight of communications content:
  • Internal communication channels including TRU Connect, The Bulletin, and TRU Announcements.
  • External communications channels including the Newsroom, social media channels and other channels, including monitoring and reporting.
REPORTS TOAssociate Director of Strategic CommunicationsQUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in appropriate specialization such as public relations, communications or marketing.
  • Five years of experience in team management in an agency, communications department, personal business, or in-house institutional department.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
  • Exceptional communication skills, project management, writing and editing skills with and devout interest to be innovative.
  • Detail oriented – an eagle-eyed proofreader who can coach the team towards ensuring message accuracy and consistency across channels.
  • Ability to work against tight deadlines in a fast-paced ever-evolving environment with multiple projects underway, while keeping a keen eye on detail and accuracy.
  • Team leader – ability to foster continuous improvement in quality of individual direct reports’ writing, productivity and institutional knowledge.
  • Expertise in earned and owned media: writing copy, conducting testing, planning and reporting.
  • Strong business acumen, project management, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Solid understanding of earned media techniques as part of a communication strategy.
  • Team player – collaborative and contributing member of a departmental planning team.
  • Ability to lead across departments to ensure projects are properly prioritized and executed by other groups.
  • Technical experience should include:
    • Writing for the web, using keywords, hyperlinks, navigation and brevity, to meet the needs of visitors using mobile devices.
    • Ability to balance creative and institutional needs with metric driven actions.
    • Excellent web navigation and web research skills.
    • Ability to identify risks and opportunities in user generated content.
    • Ability to use search engine optimization and keywords to improve the volume and quality of web traffic.
    • Ability to work in a Macintosh and Windows environment; proficient with Microsoft Office products and familiarity with HTML.
