Job Description

Recovery House Program Outreach/Support Worker(Blue House)Reports To: Executive Director of the Blue House Recovery SocietyTerm: Part Time 6 Month Contract (Possibility of extension)Hours: Part Time 12 Hours per week (3 – 4 hour shifts flexible)Wage Range: $20.00 to $23.50 per hour commensurate with experience.Who is the Blue House Recovery SocietyThe Blue House is a 7-bed recovery home located in downtown Kamloops, BC. For those who are looking for abstinence-based housing the Blue House provides a safe and stable environment where residents can focus on building a new way of living in community.The Blue House follows the 12-step model which provides a structured program that has regular meetings and encourages the use of a sponsor. Support groups help guide each participant through the 12 steps which become a way to develop their own recovery plan, both to begin recovery and as a tool to keep oneself in balance as a new life of sobriety is lived out.Dealing with life on life’s terms after treatment can be daunting and overwhelming. Blue House staff are committed to working one on one with each individual to ensure the road to rebuilding their lives has recovery and sobriety as the number one objective.Specific Responsibilities:

  • Encourage and motivate Program Participants to develop a sense of their own identity, purpose and self-esteem with a focus on supports and changes during COVID.
  • Work closely with referral agencies (i.e. CMHA, IHA, Friendship Centre, Brain Injury, etc.) navigating new processes during COVID.
  • Actively seek the views of Program Participants and involve them in decision-making to improve their services and accommodations. Provide extra COVID specific supports.
  • Monitor emergencies that take place such as medical or mental health assistance and complete necessary incident reports;
  • Assist and encourage clients to create connections within the community by volunteering and finding employment or applying for COVID specific government support programs;
  • Ensure compliance with all Blue House supportive standards, policies and procedures with a focus on COVID specific policies and procedures.
  • Help clients: obtain shelter, advocacy, ID documentation, pharmacare, EI, recording case histories and program statistics, work closely with referral agencies such as CMHA, promote volunteering, administrative responsibilities
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Complete move in/move out paperwork as required;
  • Maintain complete documentation, statistics and records in files;
  • Sort referrals and enter data onto waiting list;
  • Assist with fund development opportunities;
Qualifications and Suitability:
  • Post secondary education in Social Work, Addiction Counseling or equivalent and/or experience with mental health/addiction and homelessness issues considered an asset;
  • Ability to work as a team member in a case management setting involving multi-agency supports;
  • Understands and maintains clientele/worker boundaries;
  • Strong working knowledge of community resources;
  • Excellent communication, writing, documentation and organizational skills;
  • Must pass criminal record check for vulnerable sector and reference screening;
  • Mental Health First Aid, Trauma Informed Practice and ASSIST Training an asset;
  • Level 1 First Aid required;
  • Knowledge of Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous preferred;
