Job Description

Nous sommes un chef de file dans l’industrie des services d’analyses et avons établi une réputation enviable en regard de la qualité de nos résultats et de services à la clientèle.Sample Preparation TechnicianLocation: ALS Metallurgy, KamloopsReports to: Sample Preparation ManagerAbout the Position:Within the Sample Preparation Department, you will work with client samples and prepare them for analysis in our labs.Specific Responsibilities

  • Pulverizing, sieving, crushing, homogenizing and splitting samples;
  • Receiving and storing bulk samples for future compositing;
  • Screen and organize test products for assaying;
  • Maintain personal production log;
  • General cleaning duties for basic lab cleanliness;
  • Familiar with all safety rules as per safety handbook for the lab and sample prep;
  • Handle compositing instructions and follow job quotes;
  • Unloading and organizing sample ovens under supervision;
  • Perform basic routine inspection and maintenance of equipment;
  • EMS – receiving and storing samples for future compositing;
  • Receiving and preparing precious metal samples;
  • Opening the lab: unloading ovens, weighing, and organizing samples for prep;
  • Ship samples domestically and internationally;
  • Adjust and calibrate equipment when required;
  • Conducting monthly balance checks, and inventory control;
  • Forklift operation;
  • Perform screen analysis on grind calibrations;
  • Supervise and train new employees on basic duties;
  • Inventory control and purchasing;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Good hand-eye coordination skills;
  • Good English communication skills;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
  • Basic computer skills required;
  • Flexible schedule.
Required Qualifications
  • 9 months work experience in minerals sample preparation required;
  • Forklift license and experience operating a forklift an asset.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs./23 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
  • Ability to stand for a full shift;
  • Ability to work in a hot and dusty environment;
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
