Students consider prior learning and develop awareness, skills, and goals for working with diverse social and cultural groups including Indigenous, Black, Asian, and francophone peoples within British Columbia. Students reflect on their own social locations and biases, adopting a stance of ongoing learning and reflexivity to oppression and privilege and work towards social justice. Communication with Indigenous people is a core emphasis in this course. Students develop a culturally sensitive approach in problem-solving situations while working with individuals. Theories of intervention are introduced, practiced, and critiqued by students.   • Masters degree in Social Work required; PhD or earned doctorate in a relevant discipline preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Social Work required, a Master’s degree required (in Social Work preferred); PhD or earned doctorate in a relevant discipline may be considered.
  • Successful teaching experience in post-secondary institutions preferred
  • A minimum of five years of related practice experience, and educational specialization for content specific courses
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62)
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63)
  • Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10)
