Job Description

Date: Oct 11, 2022Location: Kamloops, British Columbia, CanadaCompany: Trans MountainTrans Mountain operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 300,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta and British Columbia, and 111 kilometres of pipeline in Washington state.As a Vegetation Inspector with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of experts. This position is based in Kamloops, BC. Reporting to the Senior Environmental Advisor, this position will be responsible for the environmental support for the Vegetation Management Program on the Trans Mountain Pipeline Right of Way and the pre-construction application sites, active construction sites, temporary lands sites, MLV’s, all access roads and landowner complaints in assigned spread(s) (Edmonton to Kamloops).Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate for in field vegetation management activities within assigned spread(s) (Facilities, Temporary Laydowns, Rights-of-way
  • Facilitate access to Trans Mountain treatment sites including communication with Internal for safe work permits and request for entry into controlled facilities,
  • Communicate and consult with Environmental Inspectors, land agents and landowners and impacted stakeholders for proper access to Trans Mountain treatment sites.
  • Complete weed surveys/IAPP survey data.
  • Attend and provide support for pre-season 2023 Vegetation Management Training Sessions and field kickoff meetings.
  • Complete desktop reviews, environmentally sensitive site-specific planning, chemical rotations, and site-specific herbicide requirements.
  • Mitigate any potential impacts to socio-economic sensitivities.
  • Provide technical coaching to the vegetation management company as necessary.
  • Complete pre/post treatments inspections (chemical/mechanical/manual) on all sites.
  • Ensure all site activities comply with Trans Mountain’s Vegetation Management Standards, Plans, and Procedures.
  • The role includes review/approval of daily field tickets to ensure work on site reflects the daily ticket charges. Inspector will provide weekly progress reporting on number of sites completed and cost of contractor per week to Senior Environmental Specialist.
  • Regularly complete data entry in Enablon (Internal Data Tracking System) for all treatment sites.
  • Ensure all vegetation management activity documentation and records are accurate, completed in a timely manner as per Program and Canadian Energy Regulator (CER) requirements.
  • The role includes liaising with internal Trans Mountain team members in order to meet vegetation management objectives and complete deliverables in a timely manner.
  • The overall deliverable of this position is the coordination and onsite supervision of vegetation management contractors to ensure proper implementation of Trans Mountain’s weed management program objectives and measurable goals. Monitoring the vegetation contractor’s performance and ensuring the treatments have fulfill plan(s) requirements as outlined in the company Weed Management Plan, the Integrated Vegetation Management Plan and applicable CER conditions.
  • Provide recommendations for improving Vegetation Management program efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Qualification and Professional Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science/diploma and field experience required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in vegetation management or environmentally associated work.
  • Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team of project professionals, both internally and externally.
  • Experience liaising with a large project team to maintain a coordinated approach to managing vegetation management issues.
  • Experience interacting with stakeholders and First Nations
  • Practical skills in project coordination or project management.
  • Strong communication and ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex problems and make sound decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
  • Possession of a valid AB/BC Pesticide Applicator Certificate: Industrial Certificate, H2S Alive, Standard First Aid & CPR, WHIMIS, Confined Space Awareness
Other requirements and Information
  • 10-12 hr. days, potential for weekend/holidays work during spraying activities.
  • Geographic work area: Kamloops to Hope
  • 50% to 75% travel may be required.
