Job Description

Company ProfileKamloops Society for Alcohol and Drug Services (Phoenix Centre) provides substance use services and advocacy for individuals, families and communities. We have a 20-bed inpatient detox unit, outpatient youth counselling, youth day treatment and supportive recovery programs.Job Summary: This full time position requires flexibility and responsiveness. Reporting to the Osprey Program Supervisor, the Youth Counsellor (YC) performs at the sophisticated therapeutic counselling level. The expectation is that the YC is capable of functioning under minimal supervision and must have the ability to develop, implement and evaluate appropriate and innovative programs for youth. This position will be 5 days per week 7.5 hours per day 0830 to 1630 hours.Key Duties and Responsibilities:ProgramDevelop, implement and evaluate intervention programs for youth working collaboratively with the existing community and school resources.Participate in various activities and meetings that promote opportunity for networking and enhance service delivery to clients.Counselling Perform intensive therapeutic counselling with clients, utilizing a variety of recognized, relevant techniques according to assessment of the most suitable method for the client, including one-to-one and group counselling.Participate in case conferences and reviews caseload on a regular basis.Records case reports and statistics in accordance with established procedures.Maintains individualized clinical documentation including program reports, discharge summaries and aftercare plans.Community Interaction Work cooperatively with the community partners to coordinate activities/ presentations.Liaise with all community agencies that work with the same target population, participating in community programs and projects focusing on substance misuse.Maintain good connections with allied agencies, professionals and the community at large.Maintains knowledge of developments in the field of chemical dependency treatment through review of relevant research and attendance at relevant training.Other Performs other related duties as required as directed by the Osprey Program Supervisor and/or her designate.Qualifications: Education· Minimum of undergraduate degree in social work, human services or related area of studyTraining· At least 2 years training in the field of mental health and substance use, with a focus on youthExperience· At least 2 years’ experience in the field working with youth in a therapeutic environment.· At least 2 years’ experience in providing group and one-on-one support· At least 2 years’ experience working with community agencies to promote clients’ ongoing treatment & wellnessKnowledge· Working knowledge of community resources within the IH region· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications· Maintains knowledge of developments in the field of chemical dependency withdrawal and treatmentSkills and Abilities: · Proven ability to work as a team member· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, co-workers and people in the community.· Demonstrates a respectful, empathetic, nonjudgmental attitude to clients and colleagues.· Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position· Ability to organize and prioritize· Ability to analyze and resolve problems· Ability to effectively lead/facilitate groupsJob Types: Full-time, TemporaryContract length: 4 monthsSalary: $36.00-$39.00 per hourBenefits:
