More information can be found here.Step into a career with the Branch awarded the 2017 Premier’s Award for Organizational ExcellenceReporting to the Regional Supervisor, the Liquor and Cannabis Inspector is responsible for all liquor and cannabis licensees in their region. This position works as the key contact and advisor for compliance and enforcement activities within their assigned area, maintaining databases and conducting reviews and risk assessments on individual licensed establishments. Inspectors inform themselves of issues and trends by analyzing data to develop strategies to ensure compliance and maintain positive relationships with licensed establishments to assist licensees in complying with regulations and legislation. Based on program needs, the Liquor and Cannabis Inspector may be assigned as the primary inspector for compliance and enforcement activities relating to liquor manufacturing or another portfolio as necessary. On occasion, the Inspector may be required to work in other geographical areas of the province.Kelowna is known for its spectacular selection of wineries, and it is set on the shores of Okanagan Lake, providing water activities like swimming, paddling, windsurfing and fishing.   • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (social sciences, health sciences, criminology) plus at least 1 years’ experience in each of the following:
    • Working in an environment requiring regulatory oversite and application of legislation at a federal, provincial, or municipal level.
    • Working with the application of policy and procedures.
    • Performing duties that include gathering, assessing, and analyzing evidence including taking or recommending enforcement action.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and related experience may be considered
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Two or more years experience in each of the above experience criteria.
  • Two or more years experience conducting field-based regulatory inspections.
  • 1 or more years experience making decisions and recommendations regarding enforcement actions and penalties.
  • 1 or more years’ experience giving direct evidence and withstanding cross examination.
  • Possess satisfactory background and security screening to qualify as a Special Provincial Constable.
Other mandatory requirements:Must possess a valid BC driver’s license.Working conditions:
  • May be required to travel alone, late at night in remote areas of the province, under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work hours that correspond to licensed establishment business hours such as evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • The Liquor and Cannabis Inspector spends a significant amount of time working in the field in a non-traditional work environment. The nature of this works requires the Inspector to travel great distances by car, do a considerable amount of walking and be able to negotiate movement in busy establishments which can include crowds, dim lighting, stairs, and loud noise. The work environment can include outdoor spaces with uneven terrain.
  • May be required to use privately owned vehicle in carrying out job duties.
