Job Description

A.E.W. LPArchaeological AssistantThe Organization: A.E.W. LP was formed in 2017 by Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council member communities to carry out “on the ground” work related to archaeology, the environment and wildlife protection. This work has been made necessary by activities of others within the Nlaka’pamux homeland including transportation, mining, forestry, oil and gas, and utilities projects. The Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council is not opposed to development within our homeland, but developments and activities must be consistent with Nlaka’pamux title and rights.The Role: A.E.W. Limited Partnership (A.E.W. LP) is seeking 3 permanent full-time Archaeological Assistants based out of Southern Interior or Lower Mainland of BC.We are in search of enthusiastic professionals to work with the Archaeology department as Archaeological Assistants to provide technical services in a field environment as it relates to archaeology and cultural heritage projects. This role is perfect for individuals who are growing their careers in archaeology and would like to gain experience.Reporting to the Director of Archaeology, the Archaeological Assistant will:

  • ·Conduct background research
  • Assist with planning and logistics for field projects
  • Conduct survey and shovel testing
  • Record and maintain accurate field notes
  • Collect and log GPS data
  • Assist with site mapping
  • Assist with evaluative unit excavations
  • Commitment to be a positive team member
  • Commitment to respecting Nlaka’pamux title and rights
Requirements:
  • Graduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology or an undergraduate degree with equivalent experience
  • Experience identifying, recording and evaluating the full range of archaeological site types
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities
  • Proficiency with standard data collection equipment including GPS and hand-held tablets
  • Proven oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • An ability to contribute to a positive teamwork environment as well as to work independently
  • First Aid Certification (Level 1 minimum)
  • Valid driver’s license
