Job Description

Job TitleCommunications Coordinator (Summer Intern Program)Reports ToCorporate Communications SpecialistPurposeSupports industry communications for the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) by executing and monitoring communications, with a focus on news updates, email newsletters, website content, and social media content for Thompson Okanagan tourism industry professionals.DetailsThe position is based on a Canada Summer Jobs Grant and is limited to an 8 -12 week internship, with the option to work remotely full-time or part-time from the TOTA office in Kelowna. The position also includes time as a Visitor Counsellor at the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Inspiration Centre located above Peachland on the Coquihalla Connector.Must be able to travel to the TOTA office, team events, and Tourism Inspiration Centre as needed.Key Functions and Responsibilities: Providing confidential support to the Communications Specialist, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create and publish written content to communicate relevant information to Thompson Okanagan tourism industry professionals with a sustainability lens, according to the corporate communications strategy, plan, and brand style guide, including:
  • Industry news, resources, and events
  • Press releases and announcements
  • Weekly email newsletter
  • Crisis communications, as needed
  • Social media posts on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter
  • Presentations, slide decks, and graphics
  • Visitor Centre Social Media and Promotion
  • Provide visitor services and information to travellers working as a visitor counsellor, as required.
Education:
  • Post-secondary education with a focus on Marketing and/or Communications
  • Tourism experience a plus
Key Performance Indicators:
  • Meet all deadlines with accuracy and minimal editing
  • Communicate effectively with internal team members
  • Provide regular updates on progress
Job Requirements:
  • Interest in tourism and hospitality
  • Strong attention to detail and task completion
  • Passion for working collaboratively and building effective working relationships with a wide variety of individuals
  • Self-motivated and positive attitude
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to work under pressure within tight timelines
  • Comfortable working remotely
Skills
  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills
  • Experience and knowledge in copywriting, website design, and content production
  • Experience with Google Workspace software and Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with delivering reports and presenting information
  • Acute attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy at all times
  • Critical thinking to summarise information for industry professionals
  • Quick learner of software
  • Ability to source integrate data from multiple sources, supporting evidence-based decision making
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines
  • Able to work under pressure within tight timelines
