If you dont meet 100% of the preferred skills outlined in this job posting, tell us why youd be a great fit for Urban Systems in your cover letter!About the OpportunityAre you a student from a Geographical Information Systems related program Are you passionate about creating a significant impact in communities and helping to advance their goals Our Urban Systems Kelowna office is searching for Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Technician, to join our team for a 4-month term!As a GIS Technician, you will get to work alongside experienced GIS professionals, engineers, community planners, environmental professionals, and technologists across a wide variety of exciting projects. In keeping with our philosophy of "hands-on" learning and growth, you will be given as much freedom and responsibility as you demonstrate you can handle.Typical duties may include:

  • Build and maintain spatial and tabular information using software platforms such as ArcGIS, Excel, and other spatial data tools;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of GIS concepts, practices, and procedures;
  • Perform basic spatial analysis and geo-processing tasks;
  • Build basic maps to illustrate concepts and identify study areas;
  • Digitize maps and other related plans;
  • Perform QA/QC tasks; refine data entry processes as required;
  • Research, acquire, and import data layers from several different sources;
  • Develop and maintain documentation and metadata in line with company standards;
  • Actively support our municipal and Indigenous clients; and
  • Assist with other GIS tasks as required.
About YouOur ideal candidate is a current student in an accredited Geographical Information Systems program. We are looking for someone who possesses the following skills, strengths, and interests:

  • Have a good understanding of ArcGIS Enterprise (ArcPro, SDE, Portal/ArcGIS Online);
  • Proficient with Spatial Analyst & 3D Analyst extension; and
  • Have the ability to compose clear and polished cartographic products.
