This is a permanent full-time position (30 to 40 hours per week) with an hourly rate of $18.50.The ideal candidate must have at least 3 to 5 years of experience working with horses in this capacity and must possess the following:

  • Sufficient physical fitness consistent with the physical demands of the job
  • Experience with driving tractors, harrows, quad, zero turn lawnmowers, bobcats, manure spreaders and excavators and associated attachments
  • Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize with a strong attention to detail
  • The ability to work self-sufficiently, with minimum supervision or instruction
  • Must be able to work shift work and very early morning and late nights, weekends and Holidays. Job may be six days a week, may be 12 hours shifts at times and travel may be required
  • Be able to work inside, outside regardless of the weather or extreme temperatures
  • Knowledge of herbicide application
  • Familiarity with lameness, treatments, doctoring and medications and the ability to administer medications, injections and appropriate bandaging and first aid
  • Ability to ride is an asset so they can exercise the horses, to warm them up, or cool down the horses to be ready for the rider
  • High school graduation is an asset
Duties include
  • Turn in and Turn out horses
  • Prep and feed grain, haynets
  • Feed supplements and water
  • Carry out night checks and be responsible for any after hour emergencies
  • Stack and move haybales (50+ lbs)
  • Carry grain bags
  • Clean stalls (up to 25 of them)
  • Clean paddocks (31 of them)
  • Assuring fields are free of weeds and manure
  • Clean buckets and tubs
  • Groom horses and tack up including leg wraps
  • Bath horses
  • Braid horses
  • Body clip horses
  • Blanket changes, Brushing and tacking up for some clients / coaches
  • Walking and lunging horses
  • Spot any ailment and liaise with the owner
  • Hold horses for the vet and farrier for treatment
  • Load and unload horses from trailers
  • Tack cleaning and washing horse laundry
  • Maintaining the barn cleanliness, sweep barn isle, empty garbages, manure buckets
  • Clean bathrooms, tack rooms and offices
  • Water and harrow indoor / outdoor ring
  • Set and take down jump courses
  • Pack and unpack equipment for horses shows
  • Mowing, Weeding and spraying of fields
  • Fencing repairs
  • Carrying out minor repairs and improvements to equipment
Painting and building jumps
  • Irrigation management and repair
  • Summer and winter feeding and watering of large steers
  • Seasonal snow removal of parking lots and common walking areas
