Job Description

Indigenous Cultural PresenterUnder the direction of the District Principal of Indigenous Education and working closely with the District Indigenous Education Team, plan, implement and coordinate Cultural Programming in all K-12 classes throughout the District. Provide culturally-relevant activities and dynamic cultural presentations to students. At the completion of this appointment, regular employees will return to their former position. This is a temporary full-time position until June 22, 2022. (35 hours per week, pay grade 8 - $26.94/hr)The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • One year of post-secondary education, ideally in the social services field;
  • Experience working with Kindergarten to Grade 12 students in a classroom setting and school;
  • Experience in planning cultural activities and events;
  • Experience working in an Indigenous community;
  • Thorough knowledge of Okanagan First Nations culture and history with awareness around cultural protocols;
  • Demonstrated organization, scheduling, planning and development skills, including assisting in planning and implementing large events for students and teachers;
  • Ability to communicate and build effective working relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders including administrators, teachers, staff, parents, community members, and students;
  • High level of computer skill; particularly in Microsoft Office products;
  • Preference may be given to applicants of Indigenous Ancestry who can demonstrate knowledge of, and commitment to, Indigenous culture and ancestry
Qualifications:
  • completed Grade 12 plus one (1) year post-secondary education to include courses in psychology, sociology, human services worker or equivalent;
  • thorough knowledge of Okanagan First Nations culture and history with awareness of cultural protocols;
  • demonstrated experience working with the Indigenous community, Indigenous students and their parents;
  • excellent knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, and SharePoint);
  • completion of the required Health and Safety training.
  • have excellent communication skills through presentations, verbally and in writing;
  • experience in lesson and day planning.
