At Lafarge Canada Inc., safety comes first, collaboration matters and diversity is celebrated with people who share our desire to continually make our materials better.Do you have the drive, the skills, and the passion to join usOverview:The primary objective of the Junior Estimator is to provide support to the estimating team and assist with daily bidding activities to secure various project opportunities in the market.Responsibilities:Contract Administration

  • Review contract documents and plans for relevant information and project materials.
  • Job set-ups for all projects awarded to Lafarge including credit approval, bonding, insurance, W.C.B. clearance, schedules, pre-construction meetings, subcontract agreements, purchase orders, as well as internal job setup for operations and accounting systems.
Technical Estimating
  • Preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates based on efficient construction practices, and using the most competitive and reliable subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Preparing final bid, complete with mark-up strategy based on market conditions, Lafarge policy, and in conjunction with the Estimating Manager and/or the General Manager.
Sales and Customer Orientation
  • Direct liaison with customers, consultants, and owners. Ensure that client satisfaction is achieved.
Business Knowledge
  • Understanding of Lafarge’s business, and monitoring of the construction market to identify suitable projects which Lafarge would be interested in bidding.
Construction Techniques
  • Responsible for all safety and environmental aspects on projects and at worksites. Adopt and promote Lafarge’s safety culture.
Project Support
  • Monitor project costs and financial reports. Provide feedback to operations and estimating departments.
  • Preparing extra pricing for active projects.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:Educational Background:A diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or Business is preferred or equivalent experience. A combination of educational background along with skills / experience will be considered.Experience:
  • Estimating experience preferred; project management and field supervisory experience a strong plus.
  • Computer literate.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and Bluebeam takeoff software. Experience with B2W Estimate software a strong plus.
  • Strong understanding of sub-grade, gravel base course, paving, and concrete construction and related construction operations.
