Job Description

Downtown Kelowna offers a spectacular landscape of lake, mountains and parks, with a wide range of cafés, continental and ethnic restaurants and noisy nightclubs to choose from as well as unique shops and boutiques, heritage buildings and modern architecture, art galleries and museums, music and live theatre, and even a symphony and ballet.About the Role:The Lead, Key Initiatives develops, leads, and coordinates projects, feasibility studies and business cases to evaluate current service delivery systems, assesses alternate service delivery models, and conducts analysis on work design, staff deployment, financial impact, and strategic information to support these processes. The Lead, Key Initiatives identifies gaps in the implementation of strategic improvement initiatives and works with the department and other stakeholders to develop solutions that address those gaps. The Lead, Key Initiatives works with the FMO management team to provide decision support for system redesign to senior management and to other stakeholders involved in the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives and performance measurement.Some Key Duties may include:

  • Develops, implements and evaluates the department’s goals, objectives and operational priorities in keeping with the organization’s mission and strategic plan. Analyzes current operations and develops and maintains effective systems within all applicable standards, regulations and guidelines.
  • Identifies and analyzes facility system issues to support policy recommendations and system redesign plans; assists in leading and implementing policy development and system redesign projects.
  • Introduces new system initiatives, engages stakeholders to achieve consensus to the plan, ensures readiness for implementation and ensures successful and coordinated completion of plan components
  • Provides leadership and direction to team members, convey policies and priorities, coordinates work and ensures issues are resolved or escalated to ensure process improvement project deliverables and timelines are met.
  • Tracks project progress according to project plan, monitors and reports on the status of projects and major issues/obstacles encountered.
  • Assesses risks, identify and monitor risk mitigation strategies associated with each initiative.
  • Maintains ongoing support for process improvement initiatives and ensures that effective communication channels are in place by developing written and visual communications to support strategic plans and change initiatives.
  • Develops and executes evaluation plans for key system initiatives that optimize the use of organizational resources and ensure sustainability over the continuum through establishing productivity levels and quality service indicators.
  • Participates on various internal and external committees and task forces to provide professional advice and expertise on matters related to facility maintenance systems and operations.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • A Masters degree in Business Administration or other relevant field such as Risk, Strategy or Healthcare Planning.
  • Five years of experience in progressively responsible positions in leadership and program management.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Displays comprehensive knowledge of project management principles and methodologies and ability to coach team members on these skills.
  • Effectively monitors budgets and executes project plans with stringent timelines.
  • Utilizes initiative, vision, independent thinking and creative problem-solving abilities to implement project plans and realize project completion.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of available resources for projects and applicable stakeholder groups, provides feedback and detailed analysis on project processes and makes recommendations as required.
  • Utilizes effective facilitation, persuasion and negotiation abilities to achieve consensus, resolve conflict and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Works effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Works to integrate project monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
