Position InformationPosition Number S00408Position Title Librarian, Systems and Data ServicesDivision/Portfolio Library ServicesDepartment/Program LibraryLocation KelownaOther Flexible Work OptionsYour OpportunityUnder the general direction of the Director of Library Services, is responsible for managing the Library’s integrated library system (ILS), and for providing leadership in the discovery, development and delivery of data services. Other duties include reference, library research instruction, collection development, liaison with one or more instructional departments, professional development, service, and may include scholarly activity.Functions and Duties1. Manages the Library’s integrated library system, including customization of ILS modules, performing maintenance and upgrades, and creating and running of system reports.2. Develops and maintains system administration policies and procedures.3. Supervises the Library Technician responsible for Systems.4. Liaises with the College’s IT Services department.5. Develops and maintains knowledge of, and provides advice on, best practices in the use of information technology in an academic library environment.6. Provides leadership in the discovery, development and delivery of data services in the library context, including the provision of training and assistance to librarians and instructional faculty in the use of data related information resources.7. Acts as the College’s representative to the federal Data Liberation Initiative.8. Works with other librarians to plan and implement research data and digital repository strategies9. Acts as liaison to one or more instructional departments as appropriate to ensure that library collections and services meet the needs of students and prepares course/program collection assessments and program review/accreditation Library reports for liaison departments10. Provides reference services, in person, by phone, by email, and in a real time virtual environment11. Prepares and delivers in class instruction to students12. Prepares research guides and tutorials and guides on the use of Library collections and services, using a variety of media and formats13. Participates in the development of the Library collection by working with the Collections and Cataloguing Librarian and departmental Library representatives to plan for resource needs and to select books, media and other materials14. Contributes to planning and development of Library policies and procedures by participating in the Library Management Committee15. Engages in professional development activity intended to promote subject area and technical competence in librarianship and information science.16. Engages in service activities that support the College and/or the profession and/or the community17. If requested and approved, may engage in scholarly activity, which may include scholarship, research and creative activity.18. Other related Librarian duties.Education and ExperienceMinimum qualification is a Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited institution.Recent experience in an academic library, including experience in managing an integrated library systemExperience assisting library users with both print and electronic resources, including creating instructional materials in a variety of formatsExperience in the provision of library instruction and reference servicesSupervisory experience is preferredCollection development experience is preferred.Skills and AbilitiesFamiliar with, and supportive of, new and emerging technologies in library servicesWorking knowledge of integrated library systems, preferably Ex Libris VoyagerWorking knowledge of Unix/Linux architectures, including the use of scripting languages, such as shell scripting or Perl, the use of the vi text editor to create and modify system files, VPN and PUTTY to establish secure connections to the ILS server, and FTP software for the transfer of files to and from the ILS serverFamiliarity with MARC standards and working knowledge of MARCedit softwareWorking knowledge of RDBMS concepts, including the use of Microsoft Access and SQL to query an Oracle databaseWorking knowledge of web technologies, including web design, XHTML, XML, JavaScript, and graphic file manipulationProject management skills, including systems installations, migrations and upgradesWorking knowledge of numeric data information resources and uses in a post-secondary environmentPreferred QualificationsDesired Start Date 01/03/2023Position End Date (if temporary) 04/28/2023ScheduleMonday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.Some evening and weekend work may be required.Annual Salary/Hourly Rate Salary range $62,828 to $100,958 with normal starting salary between $69,017 and $75,206 annually*, dependent on relevant education and experience. *Note: Part-time Term and summer appointments subject to adjustment factors as per the collective agreementAppointment Type Faculty - Full-time TermSpecial Instructions to ApplicantsEmployee Group FacultyQuick Apply
