Job Description

Central Okanagan Public Schools (School District No. 23), Kelowna BC, provides education services to over 23,000 students in the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, Lake Country and the Regional District of Central Okanagan. We invite applications for the position of:Maintenance Worker – IrrigationPay Grade 7 - Job #0731 - $26.00/hour. The workload for this position is eight (8) hours per day, being forty (40) hours per week, and may include shift work, twelve (12) months of the year.Under the supervision of the Director of Operations or designate, this position will maintain and install irrigation systems, and other duties as assigned (e.g. assist with other grounds maintenance including playground equipment, labour, fencing, planting, mowing, snow removal, small equipment operation, etc.). This position may be required to start work at various project locations.Applicants must have:

  • completed Grade 12;
  • Low Voltage Certificate of Qualification as required by the Electrical Safety Branch for Irrigation Electrical Systems;
  • Level 1 - Irrigation Technician Certificate;
  • Cross Connection Control Certificate;
  • three (3) years experience with installation and maintenance of commercial underground sprinkler systems and landscape installation;
  • knowledge of irrigation design and ability to read and interpret detailed plans and specifications related to the horticultural industry;
  • ability to create as-built documentation;
  • demonstrated knowledge and understanding of programming and watering patterns of irrigation systems;
  • knowledge and experience in operation of small powered equipment up to and including a bobcat with most attachments;
  • demonstrated training and work experience in current BC construction/maintenance safety requirements and WorkSafe BC Regulations relating to the trade and industry;
  • computer skills/literacy and a valid B.C. Drivers License.

  • work alone with minimum supervision and within a team environment; and be a self starter
  • maintain good interpersonal skills; have good verbal and written communication skills; understand and use the email and work order systems.

  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate; First Aid Level 1 Certificate
