Services and supports are intended to promote children’s healthy development, maximize their quality of life, assist families in their role as primary caregivers and support full participation in community life. Services for children and youth with support needs who are in government care range from residential care to professional services and medical services. The Team Leader, CYSN is responsible for the implementation and supervision of a CYSN team.Employing superior collaborative skills, you establish productive working relationships with community partners and provincial, federal and non-governmental agencies, act as a liaison and participate on internal and external committees as designated by the Director of Operations. A highly effective leader, you focus on staff development, collaborative practices and developing community partnerships. Your dedication to excellence creates a motivated team capable of delivering high standards of quality service to clients.The Team Leader provides direction, leadership, and support for the delivery of services and supports for Indigenous children and youth with enhanced support needs. This position plays a lead role in establishing and implementing a multi-disciplinary, collaborative, and culturally appropriate approach to CYSN (Children and Youth with Support Needs) service delivery. The Team Leader supervises and provides direction, leadership, and support to staff to ensure adequate clinical support and staff training and development is provided. Preferred Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work OR Child and Youth Care OR Master of Education in Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
    • NOTE: All education credentials will be subject to verification as per the outlined ministry process. If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered; OR A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
2. Expanded Credentials:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of two years of recent related OR job-specific work experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.Additional Experience Requirements:
  • A minimum of two years experience working with and planning for children and youth in care gained in a legislated child protection agency that provides child welfare services (child protection, guardianship, resources, adoption and children and youth with special needs (CYSN)) to indigenous and non-indigenous populations; this may include progressive responsibility in child welfare services in a legislated child protection agency and/or managing/supervising a team of employees who work in child welfare.
  • Minimum of 6 months recent (within the last 3 years) experience supervising staff. Experience can be accumulative.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Applicants with preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA)
  • Hold or are eligible for delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA).
  • Experience working with Indigenous children, youth, families and/or communities.
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
  • Two (2) or more years of recent (in the last 3 years) working with Children and Support with Needs program.
  • Recent (within last 2 years) experience leading and performing change management in transformational change within a service delivery context.
  • More than 6 months of recent (within the last 3 years) experience supervising staff in a Children and Youth with Support Needs program. Experience can be accumulative.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
  • A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
