Position InformationPosition Number S00940Position Title Success Centre Coordinator (Math & Sciences)Division/Portfolio Library ServicesDepartment/Program Learning CentreLocation KelownaOther Flexible Work OptionsYour OpportunityUnder the general supervision of the Executive Assistant, Library Services, the Success Centre Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation of the Success Centre, including general supervision and security of the Centre. The Success Centre Coordinator provides individualized learning assistance to individuals and small groups of students; administers proficiency tests; supervises student employees; works collaboratively with faculty and other College departments to ensure services meet needs of students; and promotes Success Centre services.Functions and Duties1. Provides comprehensive learning assistance to students in support of instructor-defined learning outcomes and student success skills required to complete their program; reinforces course objectives and provides students with guidance, clarification, and/or direction in accordance with instructor styles and curriculum2. Liaises with Departments, faculty, vocational instructors and other Student Services departments in the development and delivery of comprehensive learning assistance services3. Administers assessment tools developed by faculty and/or vocational staff where required4. Provides student resource materials, practice exercises and advice incorporating learning strategies in support of instructor-defined learning outcomes5. Develops and delivers innovative workshops, handouts and services to improve student retention and success in support of and in conjunction with instructor(s)-established objectives and department needs6. Orients students to and demonstrates the use of Success Centre educational technology and resources; assists students as needed and troubleshoots any issues with educational technology7. Partners with Accessibility Services to support a variety of skill development needs and provide learning assistance to address information gaps, if and as necessary8. Adapts learning assistance methodology to support student needs9. Develops, coordinates and oversees strategic, peer-led retention programs10. Responds to a wide range of student inquiries; redirects inquiries to the appropriate department or resource as needed11. Responsible for student employees in the Centre including supervision, scheduling, recruitment, orientation and training, signing timesheets; applies for and manages student employee budget12. Responsible for the daily operation of the Success Centre13. Maintains records of Success Centre use and provides statistics as required14. Prepares, distributes and posts Success Centre timetable and schedule of activities15. Promotes the services of the Success Centre to all students and employees16. Participates in student orientation activities and campus events17. Administers diagnostic tests and challenge exams; submits results to the Office of the Registrar18. Maintains file of proficiency and practice exams and practice material19. Based on a student’s diagnostic test results and aspirations, makes recommendations regarding what (if any) upgrading should be taken; refers students to educational advisors as needed20. Performs other duties as assignedEducation and ExperienceA Bachelor’s Degree or graduation from a four-year university program in a related area is required. A minimum 3 years related experience in a post-secondary environment including experience working with a variety of curricula and pedagogies is required.Skills and Abilities
