Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION – Operator 2, Kerrobert OperationsLocation:Kerrobert, SaskatchewanPRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB:Independent Energy Corp. (IEC) is constructing a 16,000 barrel per day refinery producing butane, naphtha, ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD), and gas oil bottoms. The primary role of Operator 2 will be to assist the Team Lead with the operation of the equipment within the tank farms, truck loadout, crude topping area including incinerator and flare areas to meet throughput projections and product quality demands. As a team player you will work within the operations team to maintain a safe reliable and effective plant operation.Duties & responsibilities:Facility Operations: Assist with the safe and efficient operation of equipment under the guidance of the Team Lead. Aid Team Lead during periods of normal operations as well as scheduled start-up and shutdown periods together with any emergency shutdown that may occur in your area of responsibility. Assist the Operator 1 during start-up, shutdown or emergency situations arising in the process units outside your area of responsibility.· Monitor unit operating variables (both inside and outside readings) and make the necessary adjustments to the process to ensure safe, efficient operation and the production of products as per IEC product specifications.· While completing rounds of the various process areas, report any abnormal conditions to the Team Lead.· Routine monitoring and the efficient firing of all process heaters.· Monitoring of products during routine rounds to ensure product integrity.· Carry out and monitor changes to operating parameter as directed.· Assist with preparation of work orders and permits including gas testing prior to proceeding with maintenance work.· While absent from control room, Operator 2 will remain in contact via radio.· Deliver stream samples to the lab as required.Maintain Equipment and Facilities: Responsible for the day-to-day monitoring, upkeep, and minor maintenance of all equipment in the process areas:· Monitor the operation of all relevant pumps, vessels, heaters, exchangers, and piping, and compressor and aerial air coolers in the process area. Carry out lubrication on rotating equipment as required.· Check product levels in process equipment and drain off water as required.· Control chemical injection rates at the desired level and monitor chemical inventory to ensure chemical is reordered as required.· Monitor all steam and condensate stations as well as electrical heat trace systems to ensure they are maintained and in good working condition during cold weather operations.· Perform minor mechanical repairs (steam or oil leaks, steam trap malfunction, valve packing, etc.) where necessary and possible.· Maintain the supply of lube oils as required to rotating equipment.· Account for all tools in each work area.· Maintain high standard of housekeeping by regular cleanup, leak repair, painting, etc. at the Facility.· Ensure that all process area walkways, pump rooms, building roofs and tower/heater decks are kept clean and free of obstructions, snow/ice, and debris.Safety and Environment: Responsible for the safe operation of equipment and personnel. Must maintain and champion a high awareness for prevention of environmental releases or other incidents:· Assist Team Lead in accordance with the Facility Emergency Response Plan (ERP) in the event of fire or an emergency.· Responsible for the condition and supply of all firefighting and safety equipment in the process area.· Complete emergency equipment checklist as per schedule and issue work orders as required.· Responsible to prepare any piece of equipment to be released to the maintenance department for repairs.· Complete lockout and tagging on all equipment as per procedures.· Use all precautions when draining and transferring products within your operating area, i.e., procedures, proper hoses, etc.· Endeavor to prevent environmental releases.Documentation and Records Keeping: Responsible and accountable for proper monitoring and record keeping of operating variables:· Ensure process variables are collected during rounds and documented.· Keep the operations logbook up to date as required.· May perform other duties as requested by management.KEY Competencies & SKILLS:· Keep the Team Lead informed of significant developments and important activities arising in or from the work performed in your area of responsibility.· Cross-train in other positions to ensure full shift complement is met during all planned and unplanned position vacancies.Authority Levels:· Primary level; act and report within duties and responsibilities.· No signing authority.Accountability:· Maintain ongoing training with process upgrades and changes.· To carry out the duties and responsibilities as indicated above.· To perform all duties and responsibilities in an efficient and timely manner.· To perform duties consistent with IEC’s Values and Principles.· To communicate to the Team Lead of actions taken.· To communicate and follow Company Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.· To represent the department and the Company in a professional manner.QUALIFICATIONS:· Three (3) years’ experience in a crude oil refinery or related facility with distillation tower operation· Possess a valid fourth-class power engineering certificate in the province of Saskatchewan.· Be thoroughly familiar with the normal operating, shutdown, start-up and emergency procedures and instructions in your area.· Be thoroughly familiar with the location and operation of all equipment (vessels, exchangers, pumps, piping, etc.) in the tank farms, truck loadout, crude topping area including the incinerator and flare.· When qualified will take over the Operator 1 duties when a vacancy occurs due to vacation or sickness or attrition.· Able to work shift work.· H2S Alive, First Aid / CPR, WHMIS / TDGPreffered Qualifications· Incident Command System (ICS), Confined Space Entry, Work at Heights, Aerial Work Platforms / Mobile Elevating Work PlatformsWORKING CONDITIONS:· Most duties are performed outdoors and within process buildings; however, some work will be required in an indoor control room environment.· This job is subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as outlined in IEC’s Drug & Alcohol policy.DISCLAIMER:The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job classification.
