Job DescriptionTitleDentistReports toManager, Dental ProgramLocationsKingston & NapaneePosition TypeOne Year Contract (with the possibility of renewal)28 hours/week (0.8 FTE)Start DateFebruary 2022SalaryNegotiablePosition SummaryThis position provides urgent and preventative oral health care to low income individuals, families with a net income of less than $35,000, recipients of the Ontario Works (“OW”) and Ontario Disability Support (“ODSP”) programs as well as seniors participating in the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program and children participating in the Healthy Smiles Ontario Program. The Dentist will work within their full scope of practice and will follow all provincial program schedule of services, as needed.

Key ResponsibilitiesDetailed ResponsibilitiesClient Service
  • Performs basic clinical dentistry by providing dental diagnostics (medical history, examination, radiographs), and preventive and clinical care to the standards of care expected of a competent dentists and by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (“the College”).
  • Reviews client’s general medical history at initial examination and updates at each appointment.
  • Prescribes radiographs as component of diagnostic process.
  • Maintains client/patient records according to the standards required by the College.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of client health information.
  • Ensures that the necessary infection control measures and procedures are followed in the clinic, including, but not limited to leadership pertaining to pandemic related protocols.
  • Counsels clients, families, or caregivers regarding client’s overall dental health and refers to Community Health Centre programs and services for other health needs, as appropriate.
  • Obtains necessary informed consent from client or caregivers before proceeding with treatment.
  • Refers clients to other community dental health professionals, as necessary, following established protocols.
  • Ensures dental standards and procedures are current, consistent, efficient, and effective.
  • Assumes delegated responsibility for the daily operation of the assigned clinic by providing professional direction to staff and maintaining records.
  • Consults with client’s physician and care team members, as needed.
  • Oversees non-self-initiating Dental Hygienist(s), as required, to ensure full scope of care can be provided to all patients.
  • Works collaboratively with all Dental Team members.
  • Provides leadership to team.
Administration
  • Contributes to data collection for reporting and accountability, as required.
  • Works as part of the dental care team to develop and implement client care plan including collecting and analyzing information and participating in activities that promote comprehensive oral care and overall oral health.

Qualifications:Basic Education and Experience Requirements
  • Current license to practice and member in good standing with the College
  • Minimum three years clinical experience
  • Knowledge of current clinical techniques and procedures, including diagnosis through visual examination, interpretation of radiographs and preventative services

  • This position has shifts primarily in Kingston, with travel to Napanee as needed, reliable transportation required
