Job Description

Union: UNIFOR ServiceLocation: KW CampusWork Type: Part TimeShift: 11.25 hour shifts (2D/2N)Summary:Grand River Hospital is seeking applications for a Clinical Assistant who is committed to providing optimal patient care as part of the Constant Care Float Pool and is dedicated to GRH’s mission of Advancing Exceptional Care. Clinical Assistants provide constant care support with daily activities 1:1 with patients and are involved in activities of daily living as outlined by the nursing staff/interdisciplinary team. Care duties include but are not limited to, providing 1:1 observation to ensure safety needs, assisting patients with basic personal care needs, transporting patients by wheel chair and stretcher, escorting patients into exam rooms or other diagnostic tests, helping to keep the patient room tidy, making beds, taking the patient’s height and weight and documenting the care given accordingly. Other duties may be assigned. Clinical Assistants contribute to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an approved Health Care Aide Program or Personal Support Worker Diploma/Certification from a recognized program.
  • CPR certificate at the Heart Saver Level and Standard First Aid
  • Previous experience in assisting patients with basic personal care needed
  • Minimum of two years of related experience in a health care setting preferred
  • Experience with developmental disabilities, dual diagnosis, dementia, mental health and complex behavioural needs is preferred.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention or Code White training required; training will be provided
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training required; training will be provided
  • Responsible, energetic individual with above average ability to prioritize and organize in a busy environment
  • Knowledgeable regarding the scope of practice for various job categories
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team, patients, families, and general public
  • Basic computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through with requests
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Capable of working independently and able to take direction
  • Knowledge of principles of medical asepsis and universal precautions
  • Demonstrated positive relationships with other health care professionals and able to contribute to the development of an environment conducive to excellent patient care
  • Willing to work flexible hours
