They are excited to read more about what amazing things you could add to D2L.The Cloud Database Administrators are responsible for maintaining and supporting the design and development of key database infrastructure components used to support the Brightspace platform(s). The Cloud Database Administrator is responsible for implementing automation solutions that help stabilize and standardize our environment as well as increase the speed of our ability to deliver features to production while working with other DevOps teams at D2L. The Cloud Database Administrator will manage the automation pipelines by which our team releases new infrastructure. In this role, you will be an essential partner and technical specialist for database administration.The ideal candidate should have a passion for building world-class infrastructure and creating highly available, scalable, automated, distributed systems. You should have systems experience, excellent interpersonal communication, and experience accepting and giving meaningful feedback on technical designs and implementationsMajor Responsibilities (How Will I Make an Impact):Operations and Maintenance:

  • Day-to-day operations of D2Ls Cloud Database platform(s).
  • Troubleshoot incidents, identify root cause, fix, and document problems, and implement preventative measures.
  • Developing and maintaining systems documentation such as architecture diagrams and utilization reports.
  • Patching of database and server systems.
  • Installation of new systems.
  • Ensuring all backup strategies D2L has in place and related customer commitments are being met.
  • Manage cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines.
  • Occasional after-hours maintenance window work is a requirement of this role.
  • Reasonable on-call rotation is a requirement of this role.
Monitoring:
  • Monitor SQL Server performance and availability.
  • Monitoring the system for faults and ensuring they are resolved in a timely fashion.
Optimization and Performance Tuning:
  • Ensure infrastructure performance, and uptime, while maintaining high standards of code quality and thoughtful design.
  • Capacity planning.
Automation:
  • Automating and scripting manual tasks related to database administration, release, and deployment activities using PowerShell, TSQL or any other relevant language.
Collaboration and Support:
  • Identification and communication of risk.
  • Incident response and resolution.
  • Partner with database developers to resolve issues.
  • Adhering to departmental protocols and procedures such as change and incident management systems.
Competencies (What you will bring to the role):
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience with cloud-based infrastructure hosting. (AWS preferred).
  • Operational knowledge of MS SQL Server
  • Experience with the installation, patching, and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or higher.
  • Experience with TSQL and optimization of queries, indexes, and stored procedures.
  • Experience with monitoring database servers and database performance.
  • Knowledge of database backups, high availability, disaster recovery and related recovery techniques.
  • Ability to automate routine administrative tasks using T-SQL, PowerShell, or other tools and scripting languages.
  • Experience working in tiered environments (development, staging, production).
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (Jenkins, GitHub workflow) would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of capacity planning.
  • Knowledge of ITIL, Change/Incident Management.
Education Recommendations:
  • Any certification from a cloud provider (AWS Preferred) is beneficial
  • Any relational database certification is beneficial
