Learn more about the top reasons to join us:Why work at the City of KitchenerAs a member of our Parks and Cemeteries team, the Parks Maintainer has the following responsibilities:

  • Maintain, repair, renovate and care for turf in, on and around City parks, trails, greenways, hydro corridors, City facilities/arenas, boulevards/cul-de-sacs, roadsides, and medians,
  • Work individually or within a team to plan and organize daily tasks, tools/supplies, and equipment to carry out daily job assignments.
  • Identify and provide recommendations to supervisor for all supplementary work required to maintain Park areas and turf responsibilities.
  • Independently monitor and assess landscaping conditions and identify maintenance based on understanding of levels of service, plant health care and seasonal/cultural practices.
  • Operate various types of vehicles and equipment (e.g. tractors, loaders, small power equipment, etc.) as required.
  • Provide front-line customer service to the general public and stakeholders.
  • Participate in the installation, removal, and maintenance of the Neighbourhood Rink Program ice pads at predetermined locations.
  • Participate in the winter job pool process which results in the winter job duties assignment (e.g. snow plowing, hand shoveling, etc.).
Requirements:
  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivolent
  • Valid Ministry of Transportation “DZ” drivers license in good standing.
  • Familiarity with turf maintenance equipment.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with a customer service focus and the ability to keep accurate written records.
  • Ability to participate as an effective team member.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
  • Must be availiable to work varying shifts, & rotational duties, weekends and overtime as required.
  • Must be available for winter call out as required.
