Administrative Temporary Full-time Contract Position (November 2022 – June 7, 2024)Reporting to the Chair of Child Development and Education Studies, the role of the Supervisor, Practice Engagement is to work collaboratively with a range of program teams related to the early years, both in service and academic, to identify and prioritize applied research and student-led project opportunities that align with academic program learning outcomes. The incumbent displays strong skills in leading and supporting students, applied research, and stakeholder management.Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with 4 days on-site, and 1 day remote.Responsibilities:
  • Coaches students in the development of an appropriate work plan to align with relevant course learning outcomes
  • Orientates students to the program, policies, and expectations of professional engagement experiences in the Child Development Lab Schools
  • Monitors the life cycle of projects and applied research with the view to supporting meaningful and relevant learning opportunities
  • Engage, coach, and mentor students to build professional capacity as emerging researchers and professionals
  • Meets with students regularly as a form of project management, and to support the success of their research project
  • Enforces the rules outlined in the student handbook related to work integrated learning experiences, and connecting students with recourses on campus when appropriate
  • Plans student experiences that align with course learning outcomes in collaboration with academic and service program teams
  • Prioritizes projects and experiences to advance the work of the lab schools
  • Provides leadership to develop and implement applied research projects they will be of direct benefit to the lab school and their programming.
  • Engages Child Development Lab School staff in student led projects, applied research, and professional engagement experiences
  • Monitors the life cycle of projects and applied research within the lab school
  • Extends connections between Conestoga Lab Schools to advance opportunities for projects, applied research, and student placements with relevant community partners
  • Creates opportunities to highlight lab school projects, applied research, and student work both in the College and broader communities of practice
  • Engages with faculty when necessary, during the life cycle of student projects for the purpose of aligning learning outcomes with work being completed on student research projects
  • Attends and participates in academic program and faculty meetings and lab school team meetings
  • Upholds appropriate licensing documentation and record keeping for student/volunteer practicum and health and safety requirements
Qualifications:
  • Four-year Degree in Early Learning; Master’s Degree related to the early learning sector
  • Registered in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators or other education professional association is considered an asset
  • Three years of current and relevant practice experience with children, families, and community in the early learning sector
  • Good organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
  • High level of organizational skill and detail orientation
  • A minimum of three years of current and relevant practice experience with children, families, and community in the early learning sector
  • Experience with scholarly activities such as conducting applied research, program evaluation, quality improvement initiatives, or implementation of promising practices within early learning
  • Knowledge of CCEYA, Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years: How Does Learning Happen
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to provide leadership
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook; strong computer literacy
  • Aware of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Early Childhood Educators of Ontario, and the evidence-informed practices in early learning and care
