Job Description

The Roadmaster is responsible to ensure that the track is in safe conditions for passage of trains and to manage the day-to-day supervision of a MOW workforce.Company: Western Labrador Rail Service Inc.Work location: Wabush / Labrador City (NF&L) and Schefferville (Qc)Salary: According to the company salary scale.Status: PermanentSchedule: 14 on / 14 off - 12 hour per dayResponsibilities: The selected individual will perform the following tasks:

  • Responsible to ensure track is in safe condition for passage of trains.
  • Perform regulatory inspections as per Transport Canada.
  • Perform inspections (switch, track, roadways, drainage, special inspection (flood, earthquake), identify and inventory gaps from specifications, prioritize repairs, ensure urgent defects are corrected).
  • Conduct efficiency and operational tests.
  • Inspect mainlines, sidings and industrial tracks in accordance with Operating Railway Specifications.
  • Plan and distribute the workload to meet expectations in terms of operational plan, use of assets and cost control.
  • Ensure engineering instructions pertaining to inspections, maintenance, and construction work is adhered efficiently plan work and allocate resources to ensure timely accomplishment of tasks.
  • Communicate to the employees of other work units involved in the objectives, the different action plans and the tasks to be accomplished.
  • Perform various administrative tasks, reports and is rigorous with management of workforce planning.
  • Sees to the employees’ safety and makes sure that accidents are reported that safety policies are respected and that there is no negligence towards the operation rules.
  • Represent the interests of the Operating Railways before regulators, partners, or other stakeholders (neighbors, road authorities, municipalities, counties, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance to Rules, Regulations, Standards, Norms, Policies and Guidelines (Participate in H&S Committee, job briefings, audits, track employee training and qualifications).
  • Plan work (short and long term).
  • Creates different reports for company management.
  • All other related tasks.
General Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • More than 5 years of Railway Operating Supervisory experience (considered a major advantage).
  • Flexible with regard to working hours to be able to see all of your teams and clients.
  • Bilingual in oral and written (French & English)
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Proficient in MS OFFICE, databases and emails.
  • Prepared to occasionally work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Have a valid Driver’s License.
